Methods for gaining muscle and losing fat

The thread is about gaining muscle. Tai Chi might have health benefits, but I don't think it's going to build you much muscle. Recent studies are showing that high volume endurance exercise over the long term is causing serious cardiac damage in people. Fixx could have been subject to that...

Methods for gaining muscle and losing fat

I've been following a pretty ambitious olympic lifting based program over the last 3 months. 5 days a week, squat twice a week, snatch and clean and jerk almost every workout, and lots of accessory work (pull ups, shoulder press, etc). 2-4 short high intensity conditioning workouts a week as...

    Logical reasons to choose vegetarianism?

Sorry, got to call bullshit when I see it. You're saying you can't be really strong without taking steroids? A person taking steroids along with an effective training program will probably get stronger than a non-user on the same plan, true. But taking steroids and NOT training effectively...

    Logical reasons to choose vegetarianism?

Most of the op's argument against eating meat is tied to industrial meat producing operations. No one who knows how these operations are run would support them with a clean conscience. And it's true that when you feed grain to a cow it makes it sick and changes the nutritional quality of the...

Grinding it out, day after day

The number one of course is how much money you actually net at the end of the day/week/year. Any metric on it's own doesn't mean squat if you can't translate it into a meaningful amount of money that makes your time trading worthwhile. I and other traders I know look mainly at cents per...

Grinding it out, day after day

Yeah, it's mainly because the market is dead most of the time and I've learned not to push it when it's just not there. I'm also trading less because I am simply enjoying more time outside of the office and I miss some of the infrequent opportunities that do come up, but I'm ok with that.

Grinding it out, day after day

Still around, still trading every day. On pace for lowest year ever, though still better than a real job. My volume is down quite a bit, but things have been decently consistent, and I place a lot of importance on that. Truly in 'grind it out' mode right now, waiting for intermittent...

If break rules and earn profit?

A good trade is one where you followed your rules, whether you made money or not. Profit is the byproduct of following the rules of a sound plan. If you broke the rules and made money, it was still a bad trade. It will catch up with you eventually.

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Let's see how fast you can break your own rules, for the 100th time. You're like a broken record, "I got my ass handed to me on discretionary trades, I'm going to stop doing this". Next week, same thing. You know, you can use stops on options too. Sell .70, cover at 10.00? Really?

    Primal / Paleo Diet

Grinding it out, day after day

It depends on the strategies. In my core strategies, I can easily have 5000 shares of something. I have the experience and stats to feel comfortable trading that size. If I have 300 shares of something, it's probably in a system with a lot of risk where I don't like to get very big, or it's a...

Grinding it out, day after day

January was ok. Mostly crappy since. Earnings the last week or so showing some promise, but still in a holding pattern and definitely grinding. Most of the guys I chat with are in the same boat. Tough market with brief flashes of hope.

Total volume means just that- how many shares you traded, period. Includes buys and sells, entries and exits, everything.

    Inversion table questions

Squats done improperly are bad news. Done right, they are probably the best all around exercise there is and excellent for strengthening and rehabbing the knees and back among other things. 98% of people doing squats in your average gym are doing them wrong.

    Inversion table questions

If you are going to invest in something to help rehab your back, I'd seriously look at a machine called a 'reverse hyper'. It's kind of like doing back extensions, but not really. The spine isn't in compression and it elongates the structures as well. Do some research, start at...

    Primal / Paleo Diet

Quite a hodgepodge of information there. Touches on a lot of important info, but doesn't offer much in way of explanation. If you haven't already done quite a bit of reading on the subject, some of that won't make much sense. Gary Taubes' book 'Good Calories, Bad Calories' does a good job...

    2012: The Battle for Survival

Sounds like you traded well, in that you followed your rules. The fact that you didnt have any catastrophic errors in judgement, but just a normal run of a few bad trades, and still managed to lose 10% of your account should scream to you that you are trading with way too much size. But...

    Primal / Paleo Diet

LOL. This is the entire basis of the argument: “A true Paleo diet might be a great option: very lean, pure meats, lots of wild plants,” said one expert—quickly adding, however, that duplicating such a regimen in modern times would be difficult. It's the easiest 'diet' to follow. Eat...

    Primal / Paleo Diet

The danger in raw milk is when it comes from cows that aren't fed their natural diet, which is grass. Factory raised cows, and even most raised 'organically' are eating a diet of corn, soy and other grains. These feeds kill the natural bacteria in a cow's rumen that are vital to it's...

    Primal / Paleo Diet

I think it depends on your goals. I eat some sprouted brown rice and steel cut oats. Mainly before or after a workout, or if I'm trying to gain weight. Rice doesn't contain gluten, but has proteins that the body treats very similarly to gluten, so it could be problematic for some people. If...
