Where did the "90% are losers myth come from?

I work for a major online brokerage firm so I know how much money people are making in their accounts. I actually think 90% is a low number, to me it seems more like 95%. You wouldn't believe how many daytrading idiots there are out there with brokerage accounts, that's all I have to say...

Greatpoint Capital, Maverick, greatpoint trading is now Tower Hill Trading.

Good question. Common sense would tell you they must be out there. These prop firms don't seem to be too selective in who they choose to bring on and they certainly don't get all that in-depth with training. They just expect to hit the jackpot on 1 out of 50 kids and that kid makes up for the...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

Who says the data is noisy or that it's on a time interval??? You're just quoting someone else's ideas about backtesting and turning it into a gross generalization.

Anyone else calling a YM 11,168 bottom?

I will take that bet :) I think we are near a bottom for the next couple months at least.

    Deciding between ECHOTrade and Assent

Thanks for the info. Wouldn't it take months to study for all those licensing tests? I spoke to someone there today and they failed to mention anything about that.

    Deciding between ECHOTrade and Assent

It doesn't make or break, but there is nothing major to differentiate the two. Commissions are the same, there is no training. Do you know why one firm is a member of an exchange and the other isn't? This seems like a big deal to me but I am only speculating. Does anyone have info on this...

    Deciding between ECHOTrade and Assent

I'm trying to decide which firm I should join, both seem to be very similar. I'm having trouble understanding a few things though: Echo is asking for $870 up front for exchange membership fees for the entire year along with series 7 registration. They are a member of PHLX but apparently...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

No. If you are following a system, scaling out will not increase your overall profit. This has been discussed at length here, I urge you to read the rest of this thread and the link to the other one about scaling out. If you don't agree, please post an example with specific numbers using any...

I never got any replies on this. Anyone have any ideas?

    PDT Rule & Prop Firms

Do you have any other names of B/D stock trading prop firms that ask for a deposit less than 25k? I only have 10k that I'm comfortable depositing but I can't seem to find anywhere to trade. [/B]

    PDT Rule & Prop Firms

Who isn't "insured"? I am talking about bright, echo, and assent. Apparently they all require less than 25k to get started, which is what i am looking for. are they breaking the law by asking for less than 25k? FWIW, assent won't return my calls. I have never really spoken to anyone...

    PDT Rule & Prop Firms

No one answered this question, does anyone have any insight? If I want to trade at Bright, Echo, or Assent, and they allow me to deposit less than 25k (say 5 or 10), is it safe? SO you think going with one of the big B/D prop. firms putting down 10K getting 100K buy power putting your...

The Solitary Trader-Life Hampers Personal Growth?

I do believe that people that gravitate towards trading independently, especially the ones who stick with it, are introverted people anyway. I am very introverted, I have to make an extra effort to call my friends and socialize. This solitary profession obviously has its drawbacks, but like...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

This thread got me to thinking about a couple more things regarding risk/reward and I was hoping someone could shed some light, especially those of you who have answered some of my questions already, I really value your feedback. I am having trouble understanding exactly why successful...

    Start-up Capital - Loans, etc...

What do you mean you don't get it back, can't you opt out at any time and get a full payback? What are their commissions, how much leverage do you get? Do you have any contact info? I saw the website but I was wondering if there is anyone specific I can ask for. Thanks.

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

That makes sense. I guess I understand mathematically how scaling out could be worse than break even against all-out. For example, if my target is $1 and my backtesting shows that the target is hit 65% of the time with a $1 stop, that does not automatically mean that the same edge exists...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

How can you assume your ratio will skew to the negative?? Assuming there's just a normal distribution, your increased win rate should offset the bigger losses, right? It's all the same, I make $1 50% of the time or $2 25% of the time.

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

I'm feeling like a moron today, I can't figure this out. I'm inclined to think that if your stop is the same, then it definitely can't be more profitable if you scale out. This is just basic math, pick any parameters you want or refer to that link I posted earlier about this. What I'm...
