For intraday trading, I'm starting out with a single instrument, in fact (with my eye on 2 others for later). I stumbled upon the NQ by way of @dbphoenix and the action's "coherent" enough that I shelved my currency ideas for now. Glanced at the CL, a bit too jumpy for me. Now I just need to...

I did a cursory examination of day ranges as a multiple of 3-minute bar Average True Ranges on a handful of stocks and futures, as a crude way to to see their potential for intraday trading, adjusted for volatility. I did this manually to exclude what I consider untradeable extremes, spikes...

A couple of points: The maximum drawdown in the $100K combine is $6,000, not $3,000. I agree that the target promotes aggressive tactics not suitable for live trading, however it's 5% for the $30K, and 6% for the higher 3 levels. The only other one is that weird continuous $10K which has a...

Right now, I get my simulation in SierraChart, for dirt cheap compared to a continuous combine, knowing that all the effort I'm investing in configuring it and getting comfortable using its interface (quirks and all) will remain relevant with TST and IB in future live trading. Learning CTS...

Oh I remember that thread! That's when I decided it would be acceptable to enter distances instead of prices, because the risk-reward tool can display both together so I don't have to make any calculations during live trading. It's annoying, (as is having to flip through 2 tabs constantly in...

He's done a bunch of video demonstrations, most on live markets. One which literally is about keeping it simple is:

Mea culpa. The devil's in the details. I missed this until right now, from the scaling plan page: (And here I assume that such an increase in size would also include a matching increase in max daily loss.) So clearly, if one enters a combine above the $30K level, it's not for gaining access...

Oh, I mistakenly remembered it to be 10x that amount. That said, it's not too much more expensive at SC if you have a broker it can connect to once a month to unlock the lower tier of retail data pricing from the CME. $55/month for SC real-time and another mere $3.25 for the CME data, so...

Interesting approach; I hadn't thought of that. I guess in simulation that's fine, although in live trading that would involve two order modifications right off the bat and I'm trying to keep those to a minimum. The DOM's safely closed (not my cup of tea, I make just 0-4 trades/day), but I do...

    Youngest Female Billionaire-- SWEET!!!!

EXACTLY! I'm not old (yet), just skinny, and already the twice a year samples hurt like wasp stings (having had those, too) though luckily not for as long. As someone who also checks his blood glucose a couple times a day, I would be thrilled to have other measurements become even half as...

Thanks. I gave Ensign a look before settling on SC, but quirky-for-quirky the lower entry-level pricing won me over. For $27/month I can sim trade on all the historical data I want, with good playback speed control. Oh, that and the promise of working under WINE so I wouldn't need a Windows...

I don't at the moment. ;) But for stocks, which was the reason I opened it originally, they're by far my favorite in Canada, especially now that they have RRSP/TFSA accounts which might come in handy soon. For futures, when I looked into them a few years ago, none of the decent brokers allowed...

You're underestimating again: 3 lots at say $2K/lot margin is already $6K, plus the $4500 max drawdown room, so actually the initial level funded is roughly equivalent to $10K. (In my case, I.B.'s initial intraday margin on NQ is $2250, even.) However, this also largely depends on your risk...

Trading by just looking at live price, bid/ask prices

Even the DOM traders I know of pay more attention to recent volume of actual trades on the tape, than to the book, because of fakes and what not. Personally I think it makes sense to look at where people actually just placed bets (which they'll eventually need to get out of), vs looking at what...

(Apologies to @Maverick1 for going off-topic momentarily.) Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. Right now though, laugh if you want but I enjoy "interacting" with the chart as I set up my day. Helps me take notice of not only where the interesting levels are but also how they were formed. One...

This is flawed logic. Swing around 20 lots on $4K? That's just $500 margin per lot! But even assuming that someone had access to that insane leverage (I certainly don't come close at I.B. nor do I feel the need for it), you need to also account for the maximum drawdown, which is another...

Trading by just looking at live price, bid/ask prices

That's my concern with it right there: one ends up investing a great deal of effort trying to guess icebergs and fakes vs legitimate bids and offers, reducing the amount of attention available for the rest.

Are you a successful at home day trader with no other source of income who began with modest means?

The time scale is confusing to me, could you please clarify what time span this is?

Thank you. :) It's actually how I work for myself all the time (Morge inspired): each day becomes a collection of 10-20 such screenshots (after deleting the redundant ones that don't contribute much) which I archive in a handy PDF. I like annotating what I see as it happens; it keeps me...

My (part-time) backtesting effort yielded a decent loser for you today. (It was a long shot, but within my plan.) As is typical for me, the losing position lasted just a couple of bars. (Too bad I didn't have a good enough risk-reward anywhere on the way down after that... Ugh. My trading...
