Poll: Have you discovered a "holy grail" system?

Holy grail for me is a system that have >= 80% wining trades and a max drawdown of 10-15%. Stable equity curve and is a generic strategy that always works in any kind of market, it worked fifty years ago and it do work today.

    Dinosaur question

You say you trade on chart patterns. Can you not move up to a larger time frame where the noise from the HFT does not show up. The same patterns that used to show up on 1 min resolution should also be seen on the swing level (5-min -> 60 min) right?

Strategy/method with high percentage of losers

Anyone know of bad/failing strategies that have 80% or more losing trades? If you take a losing system (negative edge) and inverse it, you will inverse the profit/loss ratio? or if you take the order flow of a losing trader and inverse it in realtime, you will win? I would like to test...

Here's real verifiable proof 90% lose

80-90% is true for the full pool of traders yes, that includes those who are been trading for 1 week and those that have been trading for +20 years. To get any meaningful info out of this you have to break it down in trances, like traders with 1-5 years experience, traders with 5-10 years...

    Why is trading not 24/7?

You have 4 hours of pre-market and 4 hours of post-market trading, you can buy and sell stocks and ETFs 14.5 hours a day, that is enough for most people. On the CME/Globex you can trade futures 23 hours a day.

The system may be rotten at it's core, I'm a no fan of the current system myself. But they (ZH) never propose their own solution to fix the problem. Barking like a rabid dog won't do anything constructive and help things to the better.

    zerohedge.com

Is ZH the PR-department of GATA/WGC? I see mostly pro-gold/silver bullshit there nowadays. They seam to be anti-stockmarket, anti-economy too as they spin news to the negative side, they are perma bearish fear mongers. ZH was better back in the days then they where a regular blog on...

    What to do for fun?

Beside f*ucking young horny scantily clad women I have found out that racing fast motorcycles and cars are a lot fun, sailing and racing fast boats too, playing action sports like ice hockey or motorcross/enduro is fun too, hunting and going trekking/climbing/camping out in the wild outback...

Why can't you scale up and be a billionaire?

Most of the traders that got very rich did so by trading either other peoples money and taking a cut or where able to borrow larger amounts from the banks to trade/invest in the markets. For a retail it's hard to borrow larger amounts of money in-blanco that is needed to scale up. For example...

    Backtest FX strategies and IB

Skip the backtesting and focus on forward testing. As others have pointed out there is no central market for FX, pricing at every broker is unique and will differ then it comes to bid, ask, last, midpoint so any backtesting at one broker is only valid for that particular broker.

    Java vs C++ or C#

In my humble opinion higher abstract level languages like Java, C#, Scala, etc is to bloated for any low latency work. Abstraction add overhead, object orientation add overhead. Bad design add overhead. I use C and Assembler for my HF and algo stuff as it's what I'm used to and is a little...

1-2% is the max to risk per trade. Math behind?

1% risk per trade does't work. I make 20 swing trades in one year, 40% percent is losers and the rest is winners. so I end up with 8 losers of 1% and 12 winners of 2%, that gives me a return for the full year that is less that 15%, sorry that is not good enough, even buy and hold is better, I...

Missing ticks in IB tick feed

Anyone else seen this behavior then receiving tick data using their recMktData subscription function call? I use the Posix C++ API. SPY today, 5min period 16:25:00-16:30:00 TWS shows low 119.04 but the lowest tick I received by the API is 119.12

Can you make too much money from trading?

I dont understand, cant compute "too much money". Price tag of a private island in the Caribbean with a nice house on it? Your own super yacht with standby crew and fuel? Your own private jet with pilot and fuel? Large bed full of young nude supermodels waiting to please you. :D...

Howcome my shares are not sold although mine is cheaper?

Maybe it was direct routed orders to another exchange than your order was placed. If if your sell is at ISLAND at 3.90 and ask is 3.92 at NYSE and the buyer direct routes his order to NYSE your order located at ISLAND wont be filled, right?
