    The calendar spread

TBS, would you happen to have any links to these articles? Dredging up an old thread, I know, but I only recently came across it so I figured I'd check. Thx.

    BOOKZ

Well, it's not the actual book, so I'll mention it. One item to mention that I just came across and found quite useful is that there is actually a workbook of exercises (with worked solutions) available for Natenberg. This is a really helpful tome for helping solidify all the basic concepts...

Amazing Short Straddle Opportunity right now

Wasn't a knock by any means. It was (and still is) pretty interesting to watch. I see they rolled out a whole bunch of new option strikes right during the middle of the day. It's also interesting to watch the IV play out. I'm guessing the last huge spike was the rollout times of the new option...

Wow, they yanked the rug on that one. Gap to $60 and then dump to $48.

Amazing Short Straddle Opportunity right now

I have to say, BBS, this was an awesome example of how something can move unexpectedly (was at $50 last time I checked), so thanks for the initial post. Great case study for risk management.

Amazing Short Straddle Opportunity right now

What's odd is that TOS is showing 10, 12.5, and 15 strikes in all months with actual volume in some. IB is showing nothing beyond 7.5. I don't see any other classes listed in the option page for IB. Any idea where the TOS stuff is coming from?

Amazing Short Straddle Opportunity right now

The short straddle mentioned by the OP is selling a call and a put at the same strike at the same expiration. The concept behind it is to take advantage of a "perceived expensive" situation in premiums which is expected to correct (i.e: market volatility subsides, option premiums drop, and you...

Best methods for shorting vola while reducing risk

SLE/Taowave, can one of you guys elaborate a bit on what that is? I took a gander at the Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_volatility which has the formulas I recall Big Short mentioning in his calendar thread (the t0=0 case in the wiki). Is this just a metric to measure...

    TSLA options

Not sure I follow that logic so I must be missing something. A combo order (long vertical for example) would have been much preferable to a single in this case. At least you would have been exposed to the relative change in the individual strike IV as opposed to the full drop.

Why are VIX Dec 24 calls .20 cheaper than the Nov 17ths (even with election)?

One reason could be the implied volatility drop (about 20% ATM) between Nov & Dec. November has the uncertainty of a scheduled event somewhat factored in. I liken it to an earnings event and everybody knows it's coming, but the actual results are unknown. Just a guess, though and 0.20 isn't a...

    NKLA short exercise

Meaning you are currently short the warrants and want to be short the shares? One thing to consider is that the borrow rate is currently considerably higher on the shares than the warrants (on IB, I show 771% on NKLA and 180% on NKLAW).

Possibility of selling covered calls with IB's Stock Yield Enhancement Program

I wouldn't look at it as "option buyer agrees to sell". Just view them as ITM (in-the money) or OTM (out of the money) at expiration. If you're short and the option finishes ITM, you're assigned and obligated to take the shares with a cost basis of $10-$1.15 = $8.85 per contract. If it finishes...
