Scalping

UPDATE: After taking a couple months off from trading JNPR for the reasons above, this past week I have started trading it again to see if things have improved. I am happy to report that they have. I believe that the problems were due to everyone getting used to decimals. Large INCA posts...

    Professional Trading

Thanks Kirk, I will look into that book. I know that hours can be awful in corporate finance (analysts etc.), but I wasn't sure if that applied to the traders. What do traders in SF do after 1pm? I am doing fine on my own as I have stated in old posts, but I will always be curious what...

    Professional Trading

Has anyone here had experience working for a firm (MLCO,GSCO,MSCO etc.) on their trading desk? I've always pictured myself someday working in that field but I really don't know anything about it. Here's my questions: What types of positions are available? What are the...

Hi Baron, This is kind a petty request, and it may not be possible. I was wondering if there is a way to make the email alert link direct you straight to the last page of the thread. Call me lazy, but it would speed things up.

    Intraday Indicators

Since this was a scalping system I was doing 30-50 trades per day anyways, and my losses were always small. 20-30 losers would only cost me $1-2k which is a small price to pay. In this case the system stopped working when my best trading stocks became priced too low (<$50) and too liquid...

    Intraday Indicators

hsanson & vvv, I used certain indicators from June of 2000 to Feb 2001 to trade higly liquid stocks. Mostly I traded JNPR using RSI. This basic system along with a very deep understanding of the way the futures trade I was able to make a ton of money. I felt the same way as you guys...

    experienced trader please help

BSAM, You're exactly correct. Especially in higly liquid stocks like JNPR it is nearly impossible to determine who's doing what. For example for the month of April, Goldman was the most active MM for JNPR (41 Mill Shares), but he wasn't noticably on the bid/offer any more than other MM's...

    Day-trading caused market crash?

Intitutions move stocks, while daytraders try to catch a small piece of the action. The increase in margin debt was due to all of the smaller "online" traders that actually held for days or weeks. For example, how many daytraders actually got caught in the MSTR nightmare, as compared with the...

    Cyber dual ticket charges.

mamt8r, That's how it was supposed to be, but I don't think Cyber's back-office could calculate it correctly. BTW-During the online new President interview he said that something like <3% of trades fall into the 2-5 min partial fill range, so they don't feel bad about lowering the rule...

    Scalping

I was a pure scalper from June 2000 to Feb 2001. During that time I only traded JNPR using the same techniques that you mentioned. For those 8 months I was very successful, until JNPR started trading at such low levels. Then, to make matters worse everything was decimalized. Since those...

    Calculating stops.

I would guess that the average successful daytrader is in the $800-1500 daily average range, although once you get to the $500/day then you should consider yourself successful. I would like to hear what others think.

    Calculating stops.

IMHO jmcgraw has the right idea when he says "When in doubt, sell out!". I've said it before, and I'll say it again..."I get out when I know I'm wrong". That's really all there is to it. In daytrading you should be instantly (or close to) profitable. If you are not, then you are wrong...
