Most orders on the close are MOC, so all your Floor Broker does is drop it on the book. The ONLY advantage of a broker is if it is after the "MOC" cutoff and you are on the opposite side of the order imbalance. The NYSE is really just a landmark building now, not much is executed on the floor...

Assuming you are well capitalized, start your own ECN and tighten up the spreads a bit.

SIPC not SIPIC covers up to $500K total account value of which $100K in cash is covered.

Once you are set up, use Turbo Tax or similar software, as long as you don't write off too much of the wrong deductions you are fine. You can always "Consult" with a CPA for $100, and file yourself. The key is finding the right CPA, most are clueless, agreed.

This is NOT correct information, you have to file form 3115 with the IRS amigo, to change your accounting method. Who told you it reverts back, that is absurdo! I really wish folks that are not CPA's or qualified to give tax advice would stop giving out bad information on here...
