I always seem to sell too early.

Got into NFLX at 90, 110, 92 and 120, 160, 185 and 192.5 Sold 90% of it at 217. NFLX is at 272 today! Regrets? Maybe! But happy NFLX was a profitable trade! Stay happy taking profits even if they're small! Market will give you more opportunities!

What do you think about: "going pro" account size?

That's a good observation! I didn't notice it until now. I come from the school of real-estate where net-worth is not "realized" till your asset is sold or refinanced. What's more important is a healthy cash flow (through rent or clever financing), so that you can stay solvent and hold ownership...

The Quest to find 15 uncorrelated asset classes

I think one quickly finds that when their portfolio size grows, how correlated (inversely correlated) risk management becomes. I guess its also the pitfall of feeling the need to deploy most of your capital into various forms of investments.

Has machine learning, AI killed killed short-term trading opportunities?

Hi @nickynoes, The point of that posting was more for inspiration than anything else and for the need to constantly stay hungry! And not be complacent on the raging bull market that we have been blessed with. FYI, I specifically call on my 15% and 20% drawdowns, because I it forced myself as a...

What do you think about: "going pro" account size?

Hello friend, 1M, 100k, 10M are all subjective. In other words, dependent on the subject. Traders in California or New York would feel the need for a minimum 5M account to go "pro". On the other hand, a trader in Vietnam (a common destination for currency traders who want to maximize every penny...

Has machine learning, AI killed killed short-term trading opportunities?

Dear @d08 , I agree with @trader99 Most people think that if you have 2 or 3 strategies in trading, you're set. After 2 years of trading, nothing is so far from the truth. You need 2 to 3 strategies every few months, just to survive in trading. Good trading is no different from being a good...

    CME margin increases

IB had racheted up their margin requirements 7% to 10% during the two times in September and November, when VIX was hovering between 9.3 and 9.9. Their argument, VIX is so low, this is has to normalize to over 11, we're going to increase our margin req. Brilliant! I wonder if the new margin...

The Quest to find 15 uncorrelated asset classes

I read through the Managed futures paper last night. Interesting read! Appears to heavily market futures trading into a portfolio. Several floor traders, I know, lately have spread their wealth across multiple CTAs as a diversification tool. The key diversification strategy with CTA's on managed...

The Quest to find 15 uncorrelated asset classes

@srinir, thanks for your comment. This is helpful to further investigate The question was motivated because of very thing that @newwurldmn refers to. Over the course of the last two months (raging bull market gone awry), most of beta/variance decorrelations have started correlating. NatGas which...

The Quest to find 15 uncorrelated asset classes

Aren't we all *ACTIVE* investors? When we work full-time, aren't we actively investing on our JOB? :) Actually, I am a full-time investor and trader. Ever since I read Ray Dalio's book, everything in life became about managing various asset classes. The question was posed because of high fear...

    is fundamental analysis bullshit?

If you have a bullish or bearish viewpoint on a stock, most (good) fund managers look at the technicals first (for entry/exit), then look at fundamentals on support their bias. I'm currently short-term neutral to bearish on SNAP, because their fundamentals doesn't suggest anything remarkable...

what are your professions beside being a trader?

This is a good question! Gives all of us a sense of our backgrounds prior to trading. I was an Electrical Engineer and Engineering Sales Executive at a Fortune 1000 tech company (they just got listed in the SPX last year). Prior to that I had a small software startup that was purchased by the...

The Quest to find 15 uncorrelated asset classes

I've read Permanent Portfolio and feel skeptical about their diversification strategy. Personally, I feel this is highly outdated methodology on risk management. The only redeeming aspect I see if diversification through "rebalancing". Today with the advent of multiple asset classes for the...

Has machine learning, AI killed killed short-term trading opportunities?

After 2 years of aggressive trading, I've learned that news is nothing more than articles of English literacy with intricate word construction to devised by journalists and their editors to sell more ad clicks. They serve the newspaper men and the subject in question. Both have an agenda in the...

    is fundamental analysis bullshit?

Both are important! You can't have technicals without the fundamentals and vice versa. Fundamentals sets the stage for the trend and thereby the technicals start working off it. Trends start changing because of buyer exhaustion (or even more buyer bullishness) combined with fundamental changes...

anyone here making 7 figures a year doing this?

Traders are a total superstitious bunch! Its all psychological supports and resistances for them. My hedges for NDX@7000 were all punctured through today! So much for my take on trader sentiments. Preparing for my next set of hedges for NDX @ 10000

The Quest to find 15 uncorrelated asset classes

For those of you who may not be aware, Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates (reputed to be one of the largest and longest lasting Hedge fund in the world) wrote a book in 2011, called Principles. In this he has a little blurb on diversifying which most attribute to as the best form of...

What options do you have at $500 / month?

Trading like that is Easy-Come Easy-Go! It only takes a few minutes for a nice trend to go against you. I got in 2 contracts of NatGas futures at 2.45 (after the 2nd bottom) taking 5k of margin. NG is at 3.18 now. 300% return of capital in 4 weeks. Could've legged in aggressively. But the 300%...

A bit of nostalgia - Opening day CBOE 1973

Wasn't the age factor. I thought Alex founded some of the CBOE industry council the training arms. Figured he was involved with CBOE since its early days. I can't believe how big the CBOE has become. 20% of my expenses goes to CBOE, the other 40% goes to IBKR. I'm long on CBOE. IBKR, havn't...
