SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

Well, did same general trade but with next week exp at Etrade and sure enough the margin used was less after execution, but gotta laugh about how much less. The cash buying power did not go down at all, it went up $400!!! Etrade just called me and the ET broker 100% agrees that ET charging...

SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

Well did same setup at Etrade and instead of $15,000 it was 7,500 margin so their final week super jacking up of margin is still there. Same trade also today at Fid was $1360 margin or less than 1/5th of ET same trade same day, but last week Fid took twice the margin of ET so the principals in...

SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

Hi, do not want to share the trade and today it is performing spectacularly. Confirmed it with a real trade at Fid so far this morn, over 75% reduction in margin used at Fid with same P/L profile as what they used the old way yesterday. I am doing PM both sides only as no need to use an AM.

SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

There is no exercising on SPX options, it is euro style. The danger of AM ones is you do not know what price your will get, they decide that the next day. It is common for margin to be way off. On a trade with max loss of $1,000 Fid charges $6,000 and Etrade $3,000 last week and $15000 this...

SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

I only do PM ones, thanks. May solve the issue myself by restructuring the trades for similar behavior with format the brokers see as low risk as it really is. This terrible problem may end up a blessing, hope. https://www.moneyshow.com/articles/optionsidea-20111/#

SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

Thanks. In general has anyone noticed a broker that is better at margin on option spreads such as diagonals? It can make a big difference. I do not want leverage but if a trade has a $1,000 max loss no matter what and one broker is $3,000 margin, another $10,000 another $1,000 well if it a...

SPX weekly options Etrade wants massive increase in margin exp week?

Hi, have switched from SPY to SPX options in last week and so far everything wonderful. 1/10th the comms, better taxes, getting great fills, happy as a pig in mud. Then today get $280,000 cash call because Etrade does something in their risk department a new policy. That is on weekly SPX...

Anything besides SPY with M/W/F expires? stock, ETFs, futures

I am about .55 all in a side at ET, same as SPY or IBM. I do get a discount as high volume, but think std is .65.

Anything besides SPY with M/W/F expires? stock, ETFs, futures

In real world in terms of buying I have been getting between the mid and 20% below the mid, excellent executions. Expect exiting will be the same. This is over 10 trades or so. So am now a fan of SPX over the SPY options, maybe better executions despite wider quotes and better comms and better...

Also if anyone know of anything beyond the SPY and SPX that have Monday and Friday options, most interested.

Anything besides SPY with M/W/F expires? stock, ETFs, futures

Thanks FSU. On the bid/ask spread indeed see a difference. Was able to quote a spread on Etrade with both SPY and SPX and the mid was .06 and Ask .12 on SPY, same on SPX was .55 (tad better) but ask for 1.80. Of course need to divide by 10 so .055 and .18 so 50% more on SPX spread wise. The...

Anything besides SPY with M/W/F expires? stock, ETFs, futures

Thanks destriero, I have IB, Fid and Etrade and on stocks at Fid no matter what type of stock there are no comms. However none have zero comms for options. I am paying .55 and .51 with exch fees in. But that is stocks. And just conformed on futures options it is .65 of so which is totally OK...

Anything besides SPY with M/W/F expires? stock, ETFs, futures

Tax Treatment Differences Here there is a substantial plus to Index options. The IRS treats these indexes differently from stocks (or ETFs). The Index options get special Section 1256 treatment which enables the investor to have 60% of a gain as long term (at a 15% tax rate), and the other 40%...

Anything besides SPY with M/W/F expires? stock, ETFs, futures

https://investingshortcuts.com/options/spy-options-versus-spx-options/ says maybe 1/10th the cost on SPX options. Right now am paying .50 a SPY option. Anyone here getting that on SPX? And if recall right maybe better taxes on Futures options than stock options?

SPY has Mon/Wed/Fri options. I find them handy. This http://www.cboe.com/products/weeklys-options/available-weeklys says LIST OF AVAILABLE WEEKLY OPTIONS Weekly Type Expiries Standard 06/05/20 06/12/20 Expanded 06/05/20 06/12/20 06/26/20 07/02/20 07/10/20 07/24/20...

    Options margin question

Hi Bob, I put a trade on IB for a stock at 38 (atm roughly) a reverse Calendar spread and it seems to be using up abou $2000 of margin to my shock as maybe $70 max risk. I went into Etrade margin calculator and Open Calls Fed Call 0.00 -777.78 -777.78 House Call 0.00 -194.00 -194.00...

The Many Mysteries of Shorting:Invalid Short Reports? Why Shorts Pay Over 100% Interest? Etc., Etc.

Well IB finally got back to me or irrational interest rates on short lends, compared to short data. Well they basically could not explain it. Sure someone knows answer but in general not only are they not talking on the web, but besides me no one is even asking the question.

The Many Mysteries of Shorting:Invalid Short Reports? Why Shorts Pay Over 100% Interest? Etc., Etc.

Hi, Think if you look at the data you will change your mind, the heavily shorted stocks have low interest rates and the stocks NASDAQ claims have low short positions have high interest rates. That is what this thread is about, it is backwards of supply and demand. And that can go on for years...
