    The loneliness of success

Just a quick thought: In your 2nd chart, the buy signal bar has a close that is in the lower half of the bar. If you only took buy signals where the close was in the upper half of the bar, would results be improved? In the main momentum-based strategy I use this is one of the rules.

    The loneliness of success

Quote from ChkitOut: "imo hesitation in general is a result of the market never being the same twice. meaning, context + setup are never the same twice. in order for that to happen every trader in the world would have to make the same exact trades at the same exact time to produce the same two...

So, what does a good trader make per month?

Hi Bat1, Take a look at the Trader P/L 2013 journal thread here at Elitetrader. In particular, see posts by Lintagoose and sellindexvol66. Also check out the trader whose nom de plume is une mon, though I'm not completely sure what to think about his results...

TopstepTrader and Patak Trading Partners- Any and all questions answered here

Hi Michael, Crispy's Combine report indicates that his max drawdown was zero. However he had some losing days, including the relatively large loss of -378 on January 15 that looks like his biggest drawdown during the month. Did the max drawdown refer specifically to time spent below the...

Any successful Traders among them all?

Quote from Look4aSine: "Honestly, this really all boils down to "inspiration" for me. It would just be nice to read a biography of a truly successful trader. Not just another story about a math nerd who writes books and wins awards." Have you read "Pit Bull", a biography of Martin...

A good emini day trading strategy

Hi Rick, When I'm looking for new ideas (or I'm just bored) I sometimes go to the trading systems site below. There are a huge number of systems discussed there. Some are good, many are bad, and they're based on price action, indicators, or a combination of both. Most importantly for me...

winning traders: from + 23.5% up to + 39.9% profitable

    - that old adage that 90 or 95% of traders lose must be another chestnut from brokers — 'give Us your money, WE won't lose it, but You will' - Another idea: among the 30% or so who are profitable in a given year, it may be that many (or most) of these individuals are not in the ~ 30% that...

Skill vs Luck -- chess skill, markets luck

Hi Covertibility, This is one of the most interesting articles I've read this year. It supports some of the arguments I saw in Taleb's book "Fooled by Randomness", which is also a bit discouraging. An awfully small number of fund managers appear to be really "skilled" at what they do.

Trade for a living- best approach

Have you looked at the nearest contracts for Euro futures (symbol 6EM0 at my brokerage) or crude oil (CLJ0 or CLK0 right now)? Unlike a lot of futures that trade overnight, they usually have enough liquidity to make good, well-formed price bars between ~ 7 PM and midnight eastern time on 5...

Are there any REAL TRADING BOOKS out there?

"2. His risk to reward is horrible. I recommend you youtube him and you can see him trade live. He risks 12 ticks to make 4." - David666 Hi David, It's interesting you mention that. I've read a lot of books and trader interviews and haven't seen many successful traders who claim to use...

Are there any REAL TRADING BOOKS out there?

The best day trading book I've read is Mastering The Trade by John Carter. He's very specific about lots of things that other authors speak more generally about, including how he uses indicators, his setups/entries/stops, and even the particular hardware and software he uses. Some of the...
