To IB, BUG REPORTING needs to be acknowledged fast and taken seriously

Though generally an IB supporter, I will say all too often, legit bug reports have received the uninstall java and roll back, etc. response. TWS crashes do seem to get followed up on if auto-reported. Though customer service still says roll back your java typically... but fortunately those...

IB new security features- makes me mad!

Someone else asked, but I'd like to ask as well. What ID theft insurer do you use? What coverage limits? How much does it cost? And does it really cover losses due to unauthorized account access, or just a thief opening new accounts in your name? The policy riders I've seen really only...

IB new security features- makes me mad!

There were around 80k customers at end of Q2 as I recall. I believe smaller accounts get a passcode list of some sort -- based on other posts (I have 2 Secure Computing devices so I can't say first hand).

Losing Execution Priority using IB TWS

Though if flbum is willing to share the conclusion, I'm sure many are interested. Also, I think I missed what the current working theory is. Is it solely based on the sell vs sell short? i.e., buys are never affected and if you never enter sell short land bec you have shares in your...

IB no interest on first 10K rule, what do you do with the money?

What if you are unable to rollover at favorable spreads? And if you let it expire, you get stuck with the opening print on expiration day, which is also risky. Delivery, as an option, is the only way to insure an arbitrage. In theory if you are trading in large enough blocks to do ETF...

IB no interest on first 10K rule, what do you do with the money?

You can't deliver the ETF against the futures, so you are exposed to risk of slight change in spread when you close out.... given that the incremental yield to be had isn't that great (except when LIBOR was going crazy), it's a relatively large risk.

How to improve Java app efficiencies?

I no longer agree in today's day and age -- I've implemented server side J2EE code that handles tens of thousands of thousands of messages per second communicating with thousands of users simultaneously. And this was on Intel servers less powerful than my new (as of June) desktop home PC.

    IB login failure

In theory it's 12N New York time on Sundays. In practice, it is usually a bit sooner for me except after options expiration (like today), when it's a bit later.

[IB] Freezing your account for their benefit

Yes, I agree -- but a sig guaranteed is a failsafe for which IB is not liable (bec the bank/brokerage issuing the guarantee is liable and bonded) up to the dollar limit of level of the medallion. So I am proposing it as an absolute backstop which provides little exposure to IB from claims of...

How to improve Java app efficiencies?

Though I have never had a problem with Java 6 and TWS.... Cust svc sometimes blames it and has me try Java 5, but no problem I've encountered in TWS has ever been traced to Java 6. Also, based on input from another ET'er and some research, I now run TWS with the following optimized Java...

A limit order at the beginning

We at least need to know whether it was a NYSE or NASDAQ stock. In NASDAQ, that can definitely be the case.

[IB] Freezing your account for their benefit

My opinion still stands as follows: While many of the woes have elements of implausibility, and I generally side with IB, it does bother me that IB does not have a time definite absolute fail-safe backup mechanism for customers. An example might be: A letter of instruction specifying account...

[IB] Freezing your account for their benefit

There must be a more complex fraud algorithm in play as I had to call to confirm a new ACH. (One beef: There was nothing telling me this was the case -- the new ACH instruction, once the trial transactions were confirmed, just went poof.) And ACH is no substitute for same day funds.

    IB EFPs

I just double checked a recent transaction on Sept 10.... Bought 600 RMBS @ 15.712 Sold 6 Dec SSFs @ 15.97 For 102 days, this works out to 5.8% annualized... I think the limit I put in was either 5.8 or at worst 5.85. Allowing for rounding, receiving the payment of "interest" up front...

A limit order at the beginning

But do that the definition of "in front of you" means at least: at the same price but earlier in time at the same market center or at the same price but at a different market center which matches where the contra-liquidity is available or at a higher price (any market center...

    IB EFPs

My answer is "yes." However, I still think you may be misunderstanding something. Are you using an EFP to replace a short stock position with a short SSF position? (as indicated in the .jpg you referenced) Or are you using EFPs as a yield vehicle, i.e. starting from a flat position and...

    IB EFPs

(Not speaking for IB, but just trying to be helpful.) I believe you do continue to earn interest on the margin requirement, but of course, daily mark-to-market losses are lost (so they get subtracted from interest earning cash balance). Similarly, mark-to-market gains will add to interest...
