Need some objective rules to stop-gain

Mark, When you're assessing the reversal likelihood of a WRB (or a potential WRB, since you suggested not waiting for the period to end) do you consider volume on the WRB as well? I can see a case for thinking that a WRB without much relative volume behind it might not be so significant...

    Online broker for dial-up???

My opinion (and it is just that, I don't have any facts to back it up) is that TWS is hoggy with respect to system resources, not bandwidth. While I am luke warm on TWS in general, BookTrader is great. If you don't need market depth and time and sales, then the web trader would most likely...

    Online broker for dial-up???

I'm in the process of opening my third account with IB, and all of the customer service contact I've had with them to date has been outstanding. For example, I transferred my IRA account from Etrade to IB via ACATS last year. Etrade was charging an IRA withdrawal fee as the funds were...

    Day Trading under $25k...

I know options on commodities and broad-based stock index futures are also taxed 60/40, but I'm not knowledgeable about how those transactions are reported for tax purposes.

    Day Trading under $25k...

You get a net P/L on your 1099. Net figure is reported on Form 6781, which breaks out short-term (40%) and long-term (60%)capital gain/loss. Those two figures are passed to your Schedule D, one line for short-term, one line for long-term. No itemizing trades.

    Day Trading under $25k...

If folks want to trade intraday and have less than $25k, stop trying to find ways around the annoying limitations of trading stocks (PDT rule, up-tick rule, T+3 settlement, short-list availability, etc.) and consider trading futures instead. Futures also offer a fair and transparent marketplace...

Looking for Phila. Area CPA Knowledgeable in Active Trader Issues

Thanks for the recommendations. I do have Robert Green's excellent book, and I find his web site full of useful info; however, I was hoping to find someone local. Regards,

    What is a scalp?

I think of scalping as shooting for a single leg of a movement, and passing on holding through the retracements. That could turn out to be one or two ticks, or it could be twenty ticks. Stop losses should be tight so the size of one loser is not grossly disproportionate to the size of one...

    IB futures trading...

DAX and Bund on Eurex, Nikkei 225 on SGX, Eurodollars on CME I've never traded any LIFFE products, but there a couple of big movers on there as well.

Spotting the Points When a Stock Can Go Parabolic

The Bollinger bands squeeze is usually fertile ground for a sharp breakout, although sometimes it's tough to know in which direction it will break.

Cons Conf Bad!!!dollar Goin Up Wtf....what To Do

I didn't send you a PM, obscene or otherwise. I do have better things to do, and this forum has better things to do than be the audience for our little disagreement. I would suggest you verify the origin of the message, and then move on with your post-Jango life.

Cons Conf Bad!!!dollar Goin Up Wtf....what To Do

Since you're enough of a forex neophyte to be walking around with seminar-supplied info rather than experience-supplied info, you definitely shouldn't give an uninformative, snarky, and condescending reply to a benign question. Unless someone is spamming, flaming, or being a complete phony...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

My apologies if the following has already been suggested (or if the capability already exists), but I would like to see a one-cancels-the-other order type (basically a bracket order after the fact). Say I'm in a position, and I want to put in both a stop-loss order and a limit-close such that...
