if you trade 1 million share a month..

I think.... he is trying to say that based on ACTUAL POSITION SIZE, the return on this amount is about 0.03%. If there was a 10:1 leverage on risk capital, then the annual rate of return from trading based on his assumptions would be a meager 0.3%..... which is where the "competitive" issue...

JP Morgan prop desk - worst results in recent memory

See first issue of Trader Monthly which rated traders....prop, individual, hedge, and institutional. One woman trading derivatives at a bank made 100 million for one year. She was paid 20 million. So, that's 20%.

JP Morgan prop desk - worst results in recent memory

At least it's easy to see how they could have "lost" in May: short US Dollar ....or short bonds ...or short equities. Pretty simple stuff. Directional mistakes always costly.

AAPL - A bloodbath in the making

Exactly. Watch the short-interest or days-to-cover statistic....that is telling. Apple Corp. has been just on a tear from a PR standpoint with a constant and steady barrage of "news" that makes it a horrible short right now....exactly what they want ! However, Hi PE stocks are in for a big...

    Looking for Entry Strategy

input: period(3); if Low < Lowest(Low,period) then Sell else if High > Highest(High, period) then Buy; Oldest entry in the book. If your position was flat at the day's open, you would have been short immediately and then covered or reversed to long around 10:30 or so.

    On Balance Volume Divergence...thoughts?

I watched OBV 1 minute and 10 minute charts once in INTC while another trader was long in the stock. The price action was sideways, but the OBV was positively awful. He eventually closed that trade for a loss. I'm not espousing OBV as any Holy Grail, but it can be useful...at times.

Why are there so many losers?

One might ask two questions: 1) WHY did your "edge" lose favor ? 2) WHY are you only trading part-time instead of finding a "new edge" ?

    On Balance Volume Divergence...thoughts?

I watch OBV all of the time, multiple time-frames. It's tricky. From your charts, I see DEC04 with nice price action, but WEAK OBV...i.e. up-volume not that strong. However, lastest action indicates strong buying interest as shown by uptrending OBV in face of sideways price action. If my...

    Huge Losses

Today: Late bears got crushed. Simple as that. Looked scary, but bulls took over after noon. Trading can be simple, but getting out of losing positions: takes discipline.

Prop Blowups, how common are they?

What's the difference ? Big account = large dollar losses, small account = small dollar losses. With a meager $5k deposit account, the guy was down 80% of his account in 2 trading days....as he started those trades down $1000 already. What's important are the LESSONS learned: no discipline...

Prop Blowups, how common are they?

EXACTLY...however, with even some good trading platforms like Lightspeed, there is no built-in STOP LOSS order capability for Naz stock trading. Reason: ETrade does not want the LIABILITY from failed stop orders due to execution or technical problems. Many other order entry platforms DO park...

Prop Blowups, how common are they?

A newbie, small-account trader without much experience was doing pretty well...large share size on slow moving Naz stocks like JDSU, SUNW, SIRI, etc (a la rebate-trader style). I noticed his holding periods for losing trades were 3-5 hours...and sometimes he was covering them in the afterhours...

    CNBC - Cramer's Mad Money

The RIMM CEO was shrewd...he put out a statement this morning with one key word in it: CHINA. That's all it took to keep that puppy alive today. I think all CEO's should take note of this "burn the shorts" strategy.
