    Missing the big picture

And when the market's in a tight range, you're glad you are scalping! The grass is always greener on the other side when you're not making money. There's something to be said about 1-2 trades per day and free time though. Draw down is relative as Mr. Sub so aptly demonstrated the downside...

    Bullets

This has been discussed many times, try a search using "bullets" Here is a brokers definition below, but it allows you to sell stock short and avoid the uptick rules. Its identical to having a long and short account at the same firm, and selling your long position without an uptick, and...

    Pivot Points

I'm sure some people use pivot points to orient their trades during the day. I was wondering what those different ways are. In my trading, which involves 1-3 trades per day, I use them to determine both direction and sometimes to base trades off of. I pretty much take yesterdays' H+L+C and...

    Market Manipulation

Market manipulation theory What if you took $200 million, and waited till around 12:30p.m. each day for the volume to dry up in the S&P emini. Knowing that around $200 million worth of trades per hour are placed on a normal day during this time, or $3.3 million per minute, you start buying...

getting chopped up on Fed Day

Depending on your timeframe, today was chop city again. Everybody wants to be short and the guys with the order flow know it. They keep running it up, letting it fall, running it up (past key stops), and then they sell like hell, getting their average cost back + a few points on the backs of...

Holy Cr*p ISLD blocked from providing QQQ ,DIA, and SPY full book quotes

Why would anyone trade the Q's and Spy's over the futures anyway? As a business person, paying more than twice what you should in commissions to somebody for no benefit is poor management. And the waste of capital that could be put to better use represents another bad business decision...

    Tomorrow is going to R O C K !

Lucky for you the obnoxious pit took out the shorts' stops to end the week. Those narrow ranges are torture for tight stops. Maybe we will get a rebound Monday with such a tight day today and the halting of the decline. Wouldn't expect more than a 50% retracement of last down move though. :)

    Following a set system.

You must be thinking about money Andy, instead of following your system? Think about the outcomes of the path you choose. You execute 100% and the system fails, you are a winner in the discipline department, and need to improve your system or wait out the drawdown. If you fail to have...

    IRAQ strike is coming soon

You think they're jumping ahead of the UN's 1 year proposal for compliance? I hope we don't jump too soon, but the UN is full of a bunch of wimps.

    short covering

These small range days are tough on 1-2 trade a day people. We've taken out the HOD, now the LOD, and we are fighting back up again. I guess every methodology has its darkside. :) I'm betting on the market finishing down.

Here is a brokers definition below, but it allows you to sell stock short and avoid the uptick rules. Its identical to having a long and short account at the same firm, and selling your long position without an uptick, and thus becoming net short. This of course is illegal, but when someone...

JPM Warns Big Miss Just After Close

Maybe that partly explains the bearish day. Must be something going on thats not in the news yet. Reversal day on Friday, reluctant rally on Monday with Gap up this morning. There was plenty of buying support midday, but selling overwhelmed it. I wouldn't want to be long from here.

Risk of system being copied by broker?

I knew somebody would say something like that. :) I just may go that route, but want to spend 6 more months trading it first.

Risk of system being copied by broker?

Interesting points, but I'm more concerned about a well known direct access brokerage which also trades its own account, not a human broker employee who might piggy back, etc. Most brokerages do survive off commissions, but this one also trades its own accounts as well as makes markets...

Risk of system being copied by broker?

I've developed systems for years, and have been trading one successfully for a while now on the eminis. My question is: if you are making good money consistently, using a systematic method that could be reproduced via looking at the trade history, is there a risk that a broker (who trades...
