Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

    11) Can I arbitrarily (and legally) trade either my retirement or my regular account whenever I wish? How practical would that be? How would I divy up the trading expenses for tax purposes? Once I get to a certain profit level (about $150K) in my regular account, can I just stop and trade only...

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

OK, here's a list of questions I came up with to ask my accountant. I'm not necessarily asking for answers here; I just want to have something legible in front of me when I talk to him. 1) Will I have to pay the corporate tax rate, or the individual tax rate? If I pay the corporate tax rate...

    Trading earnings

Are you sure they use Zacks? The reason I ask is Briefing publishes Zacks estimates next to Reuters, and at times Zacks is a lot different than the Reuters or the Yahoo estimate. For example, today Yahoo is showing .71 for ANDE, and Briefing shows .71 for Reuters, and .64 for Zacks. GMRK is .48...

    Trading earnings

Yahoo rarely misses an upcoming earnings report. I've found that if they do, Briefing didn't have it listed either. UFPI probably wasn't listed beforehand, but they will usually add it to their webpage after the fact. Earnings can be really tricky. For example, when you see a big name come...

    What is your Ext hours?

What broker makes you wait 7 business days to trade? You may be right about the 3 days to clear; I'm not sure. Ask your broker. What broker are you with, and who are you considering switching to? If they both have the same clearing firm, you should be able to do a journal transfer, which I...

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

You're daytrading (or swing trading) your retirement account? Can you do that without paying taxes now? I think you may have changed my mind. So what do you do, stop after you make $150K for the year in your regular account, and then trade your retirement account for the rest of the year...

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

OK, so with state tax maybe $1,500-$2,000 more favoring the retirement plan. Good point. Of course, if I take the $42,000 I would have put in a mini 401-K and put it in the S&P 500 or a mutual fund, and don't take it out until I retire, it will have the same compounding effect as putting it...

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

The reason this doesn't make sense to me is you're paying almost $12,000 in social security taxes once your income hits approx $94,000. (Ok, maybe it costs you $9,000 when you deduct this from your federal taxes.) Plus, you're paying 2.9% (maybe more like 2% after the tax deduction) for...

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

Let's say you make the minimum $148,000 after trading expenses and you have $20,000 in deductions. Without a retirement plan, your fed taxes will be about $30,000. Conversely, if you contribute the maximum $42,000, your taxes will be about $18,500. So you save about $11,500. But you have...

Mini 401-K--not such a great deal?

I was getting really excited about setting one of these up this year. I guess you can contribute up to $44k per year to your retirement with $148K+ in income. This looked like a pretty sweet deal, until I looked at it some more. First, I guess you have to set up an entity. Which is not a big...

    Specialist Settlement check -- Nortel?

Did anyone else get a spectialist settlement check today? I have never received one of these before; just wondering what the hell it is. I also got another piece of mail with a claim form regarding Nortel; I don't know whether the two are related.

TradeStation - pros and cons please?

Ditto. If you trade pre or postmarket and rely on 'intelligent' routing, DO NOT trade with TradeStation. They will automatically route your order to brut, even if it means an inferior execution. I have no idea how many thousands of dollars this cost me before I figured it out. (And yes...

    Is this trade legal?

TradeStation, Nasdaq, 'intelligent', postmarket maybe 5PM. I called their trade desk, and they confirmed exactly what happened, saying that thier 'intelligent' orders go to brut first, trying to match orders within brut, even if the order would cross the market. The 'intelligent' order then...

What do you think about Tradestation Securities

Software is very stable and solid, I don't seem to get stale quotes very often. I think they're fairly competitive, unless you trade serious volume, in which case you can do better. If you rely on a smart order routing algorithm for Nasdaq, that's a problem. Plus they barely pay any credit...

Linking IB's level 2 with 3rd party charts

I would use QuoteTracker, but: It takes 5-10 seconds for a level 2 box to load quotes. I can't find a way to click in a level 2 box, and have the symbol show up in the order bar. It's not very easy to place a trade from your level 2. Can both of these issues be solved?

Linking IB's level 2 with 3rd party charts

Are there any 3rd party software programs that can integrate with IB's level 2 box? For example, I would put 'MSFT' in an IB level 2, and a chart and time&sales (from eSignal, or whoever) would automatically change to MSFT? I would use the level 2 of the 3rd party software, but it seems none...

    Is this trade legal?

My broker prefers to route to brut. I'm not kidding. (I just discovered this.)
