    Good Enough?

The stats look pretty decent, although it should be noted that the last 3 years have marked a bull market. Did you backtest the 2000-2003 period?

    Giving Up Trading!

I agree, and I am sceptical, too, about this alleged conspiracy. I mean, it almost sounds comical: I set up a conference call, and say something like this: "Today we gonna fade the faders. Jim, it's gonna cost you 75 bil, and Peter and I will put up another 125 bil. Start selling at 1429.75, and...

    Giving Up Trading!

I thought the same thing: why would the "big boys" conspire to put 200 billion dollars on the line to sqeese the one-lot traders out for lousy $120? It doesn't make sense. However, I put some numbers on paper, and here is what I came up with: Suppose that 1 million ES contracts traded on a...

    Question about Price Manipulation

All kinds of players are running those programs, starting from the big investment companies, such as Goldman Sachs, and ending with the small fish, such as myself. You may want to vist the Automated Trading Forum to find out more. The bottom line is, it really doesn't matter who is running...

    Question about Price Manipulation

The post subject is misleading, as it contains the phrase "price manipulation", which implies some sort of illegal activity. What you see is a perfectly normal market activity. In your case, an automated trading system is making a market in a thinly traded stock. It's not trying to "use your bid...

Is it Important to surround yourself with alot of energy and successful traders?

Is it better to live in Iowa on a 500 acres lot surrounded by nothing, or in a 500 square feet appartment in New York? The answer is, you place is where you feel comfortable.

50% Growth, How much P/E? 100% Growth How much P/E?

You may want to look at a valuation measure known as PEG, which is (P/E) / (Earnings Growth Rate). For example, if P/E is 20, and earnings growth is 10% a year, the PEG is 2. It's believed that anything below 1 as measured by PEG qualifies as value. I am not sure that it's applicable to Chinese...

    Fees: Commission, slippage, interest rate?

There is no explicit "fee for the interest rate" in the index futures, such as ES. Instead, the contract (almost always) trades at a premium to the corresponding cash index, reflecting the cost of "carry". That premium is indeed related to the risk free interest rate in the corresponding...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

I ain't buying this 7 points gap. Sure, the USD is up big time against the Yen overnight, but it's virtually unchanged against the Euro, so I think the ES gap will at least partially be closed shortly after the open. So, I am short from 1440.75, and will add more if it moves higher.

Britain & Iran or How I learned To Love The Bomb...

Couldn't the Brits just instruct their double-o-seven to seduce some Iranian chick who is hopefully in charge of the facility where the sailors are kept? James could then rent a Lamborghini in downtown Tehran, drive through the open gate, get the prisoners, and give 'em some Sheppard pie, 'cause...

JSystemTrader version 5.04 is now available: http://www.myjavaserver.com/~nonlinear/JSystemTrader/JSystemTrader.html Made various simplifications, and included a long data file for backtesting and optimization (5-min ES bars from 1998 to 2006). The corresponding discussion is at...

Why is this market selling off AH?

"Illuminate" is a verb. I guess you meant Illuminati. I'd say if they wanted to make some money, they would fire a real missile, instead of spreading rumors about it. Surprisingly enough, the ES is still 4 points down from today's close, despite the U.S. Navy denying the attack.

My auto trading system generate hundreds of trades a day, but...

So, accounting for an optimistic spread of 2 pips, and the average of 200 trades a day, the system loses 240 pips every day: (2 - 0.8) * 200 = 240. Is that right?
