    volatitliy poor last few days

If you made money then all I can say is good job! Out of curiosity, how many S&P points did you net for each of the last 3 days?

    volatitliy poor last few days

Of course it all depends on how you trade. Perhaps trading was good on the tick or 1-minute charts. Above those time frames none of the normal patterns seem to work. But even then, it depends on how you trade.

    The market is whispering something...

Could very well be the case. Sadaam could leave or be forced out. You have to look at all the angles. Good post.

    volatitliy poor last few days

I agree. We are in a holding pattern. Instead of VIX, look at the ADX on a 15 or 30 minute chart of the S&P. When the 14 period average is below 18 stand aside or at least be careful. Most patterns seem to have a high failure rate in this environment. By the way, does anyone think...

Discipline Penalties Imposed on Broadway Trading Inc.

What ever happened at Harbor. I remember talking to the head man, a Hungarian guy (can't remember his name) who wanted me to trade with his firm - I said no insurance, no thanks. A few weeks later I heard they blew out and he promised everyone in an email that they would all get their money...

Leasing a seat on the CBOT or CME

Interesting point. The thrust behind the PDT was that novice traders were going broke due to overtrading. It was the slippage and commissions that were doing them in. Reducing the tick size of the Emini and subsequent slippage would be in-line with that thought process. Hopefully it...

Leasing a seat on the CBOT or CME

Now that Eurex is free to move into the US market the trend toward electronic trading should increase. Institutions now will have a club to hit the CME, CBOT and NYBOT with. I hope Eurex offers an S&P 500 product with a .10 tick size (or less). They could make a case to the CFTC that...

    Censorship on Elitetrader?

Thank goodness! One thing I like about this forum is that the inane, non trading related posts are regulated to the chit chat section and don't show up on the main thread listing. I stopped participating in some other trading forums because of the amount of NTR posts. I don't have time to...

How much does a specialist make??

I'll let someone more knowledgeable offer the definitive answer to this question. But from my limited info on actual market makers, they do fill orders at small losses to maintain order flow - i.e. if they are filling a customers order.

How much does a specialist make??

This is the way its suppose to work in a competitive market auction. The best bid or ask gets the trade. If you have the best bid on a thinly traded stock and you don't get an immediate fill - its because there is no one who wants the other side of your trade at that moment. Thats the way a...

How much does a specialist make??

Nasdaq companies are smaller and more volatile. Thats a given. Its got nothing to do with the order execution system. If you really want to see the difference between Nasdaq and NYSE. Bring up two stocks of equal volume. One Nasdaq and one NYSE - watch how the bid-ask in the Nasdaq moves...

How much does a specialist make??

Yea, that fabled NYSE specialist system really was much better than the Nasdaq system in moderating the telecom-tech boom and bust. Consider the price declines of the following NYSE stocks: ATT (T) - 96 down to 16 AOL - 96 down to 8.7 TXN - 100 down to 13 LU - 84 down...

    Ib Sucks

How about a yellow or red light that lets you know if your connection has been interrupted or lost. Right now, I think everyone looks at the changing bid-ask size to see if they are still connected.

How much does a specialist make??

Exactly! The NYSE needs to be opened up the way the Nasdaq was opened in the 80's.
