You could go short almost any Yen cross pretty safely. I've been HEAVILY short GBP/JPY from 144.50 :-)

you may also want to try forexfactory forums... I post on the GBP/JPY thread a lot.

    EUR will skyrocket this afternoon

Yes, agree that you should keep posting. I myself am 85-90% technical and just keep an ear to the news now and then (the big stuff) but admittedly am not that great at analyzing and making detailed sense of it all. I appreciate someone that can.

    Is GBP/USD the smoothest pair?

Well, I'm not entirely sure on your definition of smooth but my top choices would be AUD/USD or EUR/CHF. Both extremely predictable and "smooth" pairs. EUR/USD is (in my opinion) smoother than GBP/USD and so is USD/JPY. In fact, I think GBP/USD is one of the most volatile pairs. When you...

    Is GBP/USD the smoothest pair?

GBP/USD the smoothest? That's laughable at best!

    MB Trading

I use them and love them compared to other brokers I've used. I manage accounts and use their Managed Account Tool (MAT) and it's all been great. I've placed orders via phone through their trade desk and have had no problems.

    Student seeking Mentor

PM me in 6 months. I live in San Francisco and trade Forex. You sound like your into stocks right now but more into trading so that offer could be on the table with FX. I MAY have time in 6 months to take on a new "apprentice" so that's my offer. Until then, I suggest you read and watch...

    EUR/USD

1 hour uptrend line still intact... I'd actually be looking to take a low risk/reward long with tight stop loss below the trendline. Could see 1.3650 easily.

High Frequency Trading - Hype or Substance?

This guy is probably the only other person in here that knows what he's talking about. I offered to chat with people via IM and received a bunch of them. I'll be trying to respond in the next couple days. But what it comes down to is that HFT is nothing what everyone here believes it to be.

    my first GPB/JPY trade

I rarely trade anything other than GBP/JPY. I have its number, know its pulse... it makes me a lot of money. By far my favorite pair.

    I need a forex mentor

I'm mentoring someone right now and for probably the next six months. I enjoy teaching and find it rewarding. I won't do it remotely, you'd have to live in or near San Francisco.

High Frequency Trading - Hype or Substance?

If any of you truly want a Q&A regarding HFT you can feel free to PM me. I worked for a couple years as the FX desk manager at a HFT hedge fun in Chicago. The concept is actually quite simple and transaction costs not an issue. We accounted for 15-20% of CME volume in most of the majors and...

is Forex easier or harder than other stuff

In my opinion FX is second to only one other asset... natural gas. FX is incredibly volatile and (usually) highly leveraged. It was common to trade with 200, 300, 400, or even more:1 leverage not long ago, but some regulation in the US has limited it to 100:1. And that is pretty common...

    Long term euro

In my opinion it would be much more likely to blow both accounts. No joke.

How long can you hold a position?

It's hard to put numbers on how many pips something can drop. GBP/JPY dropped thousands of pips during the months when the real estate bottom was falling out. Averaging down there would have blown your account. Soros made over a billion dollars shorting the Pound back in the day. So...

How long can you hold a position?

you can definitely average down as long as you don't over leverage yourself and keep the major trend in mind. When you're wrong, you need to recognize it and not be stubborn. Those are the toughest two things to conquer.

    Forex Brokers???

A few things to consider: 1. Do you want to trade futures or cash? 2. If cash, do you want to trade on MetaTrader or not? 3. Do you want to end up switching brokers? I've traded for years and with at LEAST 10 different brokers. My answers to the above are: 1. I trade both...

How long can you hold a position?

There is no time line, you can hold positions for as long as you want. Do some reading on the "carry trade"... essentially an arbitrage between two different currency interest rates. It's not prevalent right now because rates are low everywhere, but when Japan was implementing ZIRP and...

    Long term euro

I'm not sure it's the best idea if you've never traded currency before. It also depends on how you plan to trade. If you're looking to open a brokerage account and buy with 100:1 leverage (pretty common) then you wouldn't be able to put on much size with $1,000 account (probably a max of...

How liquid is the Euro FX on the CME?

Not long ago I worked for a high frequency outfit in Chicago. We regularly rested orders of 100 cars on EUR/USD throughout the US trading session and had the orders generally 10 levels deep (both on the bid and ask). Now, granted these orders are constantly replaced and canceled and only...
