    For the true novices

For a book I suggest Market Wizards by Jack Schwager. It's all interviews with successful traders and investors, gives you an idea about what goes on inside a successful mind. Also Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by LeFevre. It gives you an education on all the shenanigans that go on behind...

    Cash Management

No, never average down without good reason. You have to know what you're doing, and the second (lower) buy is always just above a level of very strong support (and above my stop). If it crosses under that level then I get out fast and don't loose much on the second buy. It works for me 3/4 of...

    Trading Methods & Techniques

Ericdh, Glad youy finally found something meaningful to add. It will help my trading I'm sure. And it's drivel, not dribble.

    Cash Management

I usually take a full position first. When I first started I would add some when it went my way but that just raised my average cost and lowered my profits. If I really believe in a trade I will only add when it is going against me to get a lower average cost per share. If I end up being right...

    The market CAN be manipulated?

When the market was near the bottom a month ago the evil empire (media, Goldman, funds, etc.) was reccommending that people hold off or go easy on their stock purchases for the time being because it was too early to tell if the early rally was going to be a sustained one. My as of yet only...

    The Segway

A gyro senses changes in position. They have been using ring laser gyros for 15 years in military aircraft and guidance systems. A flywheel would be used to stabilize but it doesn't appear that this scooter has one in it. It's stabilized with position sensors and motor controls.

Purchase of Home or Trading Biz?

Something to think about. Your serious girlfriend might have a different opinion of you after she see's you go from a 80k company guy to a moaning, cussing guy sitting around the house in front of the computer terminal in his underwear all day. To most women image is everything (what would her...

Member Poll, How successful are we.

I think this poll might be beneficial to people considering trading for the first time. Sometimes the decision to start trading is has a lot riding on it, quitting jobs, etc.. Also, how long have you been trading. I've been at it for about 9 mo.

Purchase of Home or Trading Biz?

Don't take anyones advice. You're the one that will have to live with the consequences. There's a saying "Expert advice is always comforting, even when it's wrong".

    Will excite@home cable survive?

I am (was?) an AT&T AtHome cable customer. Opened my browser this morning, and surprise, surprise, I'm at AT&T. None of my bookmarks or homepage buttons work. They all send me right back to AT&T. I ran the "configurator" program and everything is working again, even Netscape. No problemo.

Pro firm leverage and risk management

    Risk management (the firms risk) . R = (Commissions/Trading results) "A bad trader". -1 > R < 0 . "A good trader" R > 0 or R < -1 . Account balance is somewhat irrelevant. For instance, if a traders account shows -$25,000 but he's paid $40,000 in commissions, and he walks away...

    I'm a rookie

Go to Stockcharts.com. Do a customized scan. Example, find all stocks with atr(10)>2 and price <20. All the returned symbols will have a daily range of at least 10%.

If you could get it at $1.10 or less tomorrow it might be worth a small position. Looks interesting if your in a speculating mood.

    Are trader's skills really important?

Posted by Jaan "for example, some believe that the presence of a sentient being is required on the receiving end to invoke the collapse." . This is something like saying that our very awareness precludes us from understanding. If that were true, the only way to understand would be to become...
