Starting a fund / raising capital

As was mentioned before on this thread, incubator funds are a bunch of nonsense created by the legal industry to make money. THEY ARE TYPICALLY NOT LEGITIMATE and most times the performance cannot be used legally. I'm continually surprised that those professing intimate knowledge of fund law...

Starting a fund / raising capital

FYI update for anyone interested I haven't been around much for the last year or so. Thought I'd give an update to follow up on some comments made last year. Seems like myself, Heech, and a couple others were the only ones on here providing actual startup experiences on this topic. What...

    Russian Tycoon bets on Immortality

Law of diminishing returns is already taking hold. I remember us all saying that we would have flying cars by the time I got my drivers license a few decades ago. Not even close. We can't hardly even make a car that drives itself to a satisfactory level. They've been claiming that a cure for...

Fed Reserve profits are the fastest growing revenue source for govt

Of course it is rational and very intuitive. They aren't doing it to be mean. Just acting in their own self interest. They are obviously using capital in a manner that they deem to be the best risk adjusted return. You keep insisting that fiscal policy is the main driver. I disagree...

Fed Reserve profits are the fastest growing revenue source for govt

Hmmm, it seems that where we are missing each other is partly in the definition of the consumer. When I refer to credit consumers I'm not limiting the definition to individuals. I'm referring to all consumers, including business entities. So it seems that we are in agreement there. There...

Fed Reserve profits are the fastest growing revenue source for govt

Actually, it is only you who isn't accounting for those "real world" factors in discussion of elasticity. In an effort to completely discredit the concepts you make the mistake of assuming that everyone who uses those terms takes a completely elementary view of them. You are confusing two...

Cities for starting a prop firm/hedge fund?

Of course they are well ahead of the rest of the nation. The bulk of the economy there is energy. All energy based micro-economies are doing well right now. OK, ND, UT, and WY are all reaping those benefits too, and all are coincidentally in the top 10 lowest unemployment. If you dig...

    No idea how to begin

First, don't quit your day job for a long while yet. You really don't want to be in a situation where you have to profit to survive. Second, the last 4 weeks have been very easy for anyone doing basic stock trading or trend trading. This is not a good indication of long term success. I...

Fed Reserve profits are the fastest growing revenue source for govt

Lol. That's funny. Realize though, I'm not referring to elasticity in terms of exact numbers and precise relationships. That is where it breaks down. But as a general concept referencing a fluid relationship between price, income, and demand the idea of elasticity is quite useful. But if...

Fed Reserve profits are the fastest growing revenue source for govt

The idea that an increase in base money will cause equivalent inflation is based on three very large assumptions. The first two are that we are unit elastic in terms of both price and income. If we get 10% more dollars into the system, then aggregate quantity demanded will increase by 10%...

Fed Reserve profits are the fastest growing revenue source for govt

Great posts Ed! There is only one problem with the Fed's viewpoint on inflation. I agree with your argument that their actions are not currently causing inflation due to the mechanisms you cited. However, the other edge of that sword must be recognized. Just as their actions are not...

Starting a fund / raising capital

Both. With both the NFA and the SEC it is not required to disclose proprietary trading results. That is the entire point of the incubator fund. It supposedly allows you to classify a prop account as a discretionary account, which would then allow you to use it for performance history without...

Market Correlation - What is It?

There are many studies on it. I read one recently by analysts at Goldman Sachs, but it was an internal study so you might not be able to look it up online. Don't think they published it outside of GSAM. I've done a lot of study on the topic myself as well. It is very obvious. The only...

Market Correlation - What is It?

Actually global markets are heavily correlated during crashes and become less correlated as the recovery ensues. The lowest correlation is to be found at the peak, right before another drop.

    Traders tax accountants

Agreed. For futures ops you don't need much tax advice. Not worth giving up 1256 in order to gain certain other tax benefits. A regular CPA can help you with standard allowed deductions. All you have to do for trades is report net profit or loss. Pretty simple.

    Traders tax accountants

Why do you need a CPA to help you do taxes on Futures options? It is single line reporting.

    Increasing Size During Drawdown

I can't really help you with any of it much more without you studying a bit. I can't do it for you without a complete list of your trades. Even then, it sounds like we would have to sit down and properly categorize the trades which would take a bit of discussion and programming. I don't have...

Ok, this is making much more sense now. Thanks for clarifying Ammo.

    Increasing Size During Drawdown

Ok. But Ammo is right. When you calculate your expectancy, an averaged trade only counts as one trade. Example, you bought 100 XYZ @ $10 and then bought 100 again at $9. Then you sold all of it for $10. The entire thing only counts as 1 RT. Average opening price $9.50 Average closing...

    Increasing Size During Drawdown

You're confusing me. Are we talking about you actually closing the trades, or them simply being marked to market?
