Tell me why averaging down is a bad idea .

It might work, but the math is against you, because you will have a max position for every stop-out, but many (most?) of your winners will be less than max positions. This creates the need for exceptionally high win rates (net of commissions/slippage).

Barbell strategy: anyone is using it?

You have described the process underlying a Fixed Indexed Annuity. Over time, they return a bit more than a bond index, with similar volatility. VERY expensive products, though. You pay a high up front commission and ongoing expenses. If you can "roll your own" and minimize transaction costs...

    Need some guidance...

Cargill or ADM might have energy trading operations - both are in the midwest. Also, look at the local utilities. Most of them have natgas generators and so need to manage their supply.

Theta is NOT the P/L of an option

P/L is the difference between implied and realized vol at expiration (net of hedging costs).

Question about intrinsic value vs time value

This is probably not a technical enough answer, but puts are almost always more expensive than calls at any given strike (which by your equation would result in less time value). I'm sure there are several PhD papers that explain why that is, but it's sort of accepted now.

Do these financial journalist make money?

I also saw a job ad for a freelance writer for Motley Fool. They pay $100 per article to start (if hired), then bump it up to $200-$350 per article if they like your first few articles. You need to write at least 20 articles per month.

Do these financial journalist make money?

A lot of those sites have revenue sharing programs - $x per 1000 pageviews or something similar. The money isn't very good. A lot of the authors use freelancing as a way to build credibility, which (hopefully) helps their more lucrative business lines (asset management, consulting, newsletter...

what is a good platform for STIRs?

Trading Technologies probably does everything you want. It's expensive ($1400/month) but is pretty much the gold standard. CQG Integrated Client has similar capabilities. As far as cost, you should probably buy or lease a CME membership. Exchange fees will be the largest component of commissions...

    Implied Volitility

You have to get the semantics right to fully understand how to analyze an option trade based on volatility: IV is the expected volatility that is reflected in the option price. It is literally a plug figure in the option pricing equation. If you know the option price, the underlying price, the...

Why are retail brokerage stocks down today?

Retail brokers make a ton of money on idle customer cash, although that profit stream will get cut if short-term interest rates fall. The market is afraid the Fed will spoil the party for the brokers. Fun fact, Charles Schwab Bank is the ~12th largest bank in the country as measured by deposits.

Is the IBD 50 ETF underperforming the SPY a sign that growth stocks are priced more correctly now?

Momentum in general has underperformed over the past 3-5 years. Overall positive market performance, but a couple of whipsaws hit stops and triggered sudden losses on the mo-mos. I have no opinion as to the future profitability of the IBD 50 or CANSLIM in general. Interestingly, the leading...

Any good books to read lately? Leisure reading is also of interest.

Billion Dollar Whale isn't directly trading-related, but it is an incredible story about fraud on an epic scale by an unknown kid. True story. Bad Blood is the story of Theranos, and reads like fiction (even though it is, sadly, another true story).

How is your day trading experience of 10-Year T-Note (/ZN)?

I think most of the ZN traders on your timeframe use DOM/orderflow and scalp a few ticks at a time. Charts really get washed out in the noise, unless it is a Fed Day/jobs report/trend day. John Grady at NoBSDayTrading is a fan of the ZN.

Are there any brokers offering $1m+ financing for margin rates lower than IB?

They absolutely sell order flow on regular retail clients. I'm not sure about their active traders though. Usually the advanced platforms can customize routing, exchanges, etc. IB does NOT sell order flow.

Are there any brokers offering $1m+ financing for margin rates lower than IB?

Interactive Brokers generally does not negotiate...they use "Wal Mart" type pricing (i.e. everyday low price). However, TD Ameritrade, E*TRADE, Fidelity and Schwab will negotiate if you can hit minimum asset levels and share volume targets. There are some people who don't pay any commissions on...

Need to contact Commodities Options Sellers ONLY

There is a guy on futures.io that has run a fairly successful option selling strategy and keeps a journal about it. He is pretty responsive if you ask questions on his thread. https://futures.io/options-futures/36932-diversified-option-selling-portfolio.html

Microsoft Excel can provide real-time stock data

I use it and it works pretty well for long-term portfolios. Obviously useless for any kind of short-term trading.
