Has anyone gotten a better Interactive Brokers margin for shorting?

It seems like their regular margin is 25%, but for shorting it's 30%, and sometimes 40% or higher. Has anyone seen them be flexible on this, if there's a track record of not being reckless?

How much do you pay in taxes on your earnings?

For those of you who are green at the end of the year, what is the general percentage that goes to taxes, taking loopholes and exemptions into account? Is trading income the same as regular 1099 income?

Need to eliminate the big losses

I'm sure you know the answer: Stick to your rules no matter what. Especially now that you know that you would be profitable if you just kept your stops.

Life after death is clearly real. Why do people still ridicule it?

Logically it's pretty simple. Someone who's eye were closed, and had no heart rate describes exact details of things that happened in their room, including numbers on instruments that weren't even facing them. Forget about religion, tell me how that's possible when someone is officially dead...

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

I agree, PDT is an obstacle, but not a permanent roadblock. Despite my complaints, I am actually about to start with Interactive Brokers thanks to some people who have put trust in me, so wish me luck. And good luck to you.

Is it more effective to learn through books and internet than expensive courses?

It is definitely hard to pickup everything in 3 days. I hope they give packets or downloads to take home, otherwise it would be pretty pointless. No matter what course you take, you'll still have to follow the same path....trade, make mistakes, figure out how to get better by researching...

    Risk management on breakout trading

I'm surprised no developer has made a trading journal that can simulate what the P&L of your trades would be if you moved different parameters around. Holding trades 15% longer, or taking profit earlier. That would be very valuable.

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

"Sufficient to support the risks"....basically they want you to have enough money so that you lose money that you have, and don't get margin called. Could have been fixed by forbidding margin on small accounts, so that even $3000 "supports the risk".

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

I'd be very happy with $500 commissions on a $5k account, that would leave me with an acceptable profit. At the end of the day, there are things I can do, such as do longer trades with bigger stops and profit target. Or get funding to reach 25k. I don't believe in being a victim. But it's...

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

What are you talking about? I am already offshore, that's the problem.

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

I do 15 minute trades. Sure I could change my approach to do 1 or 2 hour larger trades, but if I'd rather make it to Interactive Brokers, and keep my style. If I end up stuck offshore, that will be a solution.

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

I am referring to day trading, where it is neccesary to go offshore. All of my experience is with day trading. And my whole complaint is that offshore commissions are negating my profitability, so that I cannot build up money to get over 25k. I calculated my commissions with my broker, and I...

    Broker against profitable strategies

I am the wrong guy sorry. I have no experience with algos, and these broker issues are not on my mind.

    Broker against profitable strategies

He said trading against, not mirroring their trades. I personally don't care what they do. My strategy is my responsibility.

The PDT rule is holding me back. And it makes no sense.

I don't understand how the PDT rule is helpful. Even for new traders. Why is it helpful to force traders to start with such large amounts, before they have learned about risk management, fear, greed, etc.? New traders should be LIMITED to below $5k, not forced above 25k. Money doesn't equal...

    Broker against profitable strategies

If they are profitable, the Broker shouldn't be trading against them. And why would they care if someone's profitable or not? They make guaranteed money on commissions.

Who is the better trader - making 5% on $10mm portfolio, or making 50% on $1m portfolio?

They are both making more than enough money.

    Pretty new and seeking advice

Whatever you want to do, just do it. The market has many counter-intuitive tendencies that you'll run into, and you'll have to learn and update as you go. Just don't use 10k while you are still testing strategies, like I did. Demand at least one full month of profitability from yourself before...

Could this simple formula be profitable?

i just finished reading "Trend Following", great book. I personally trade on much smaller time frames(20 minute trades), but the general idea translates. One question I've had for awhile now is: Is it better to take profit at 3R, or always hold until sign of the trend being over? Because there...
