POLL: If you had to choose ONE bread 'n butter strategy which would it be and why?

The stock market has been going up in the past 12 months. I was burnt several times by writing uncovered calls. Now, I only employ the above strategies for options on ETF. Credit spreads on OEX options is another possibility, but I am just too lazy: it is 100% more difficult to enter a spread...

    Predictions of experts

Experts are human beings. They are not Gods. Human beings will make mistakes. Since so many predictions of experts are wrong, how will ordinary people like us fare, when forecasting the movement of the stock market ? :p :p :p :D :D :D

    Professor Bubble

It is one of the reasons that trading is so difficult. No one can really predict the movements of the stock market. In the winter of 1999, I walked along the sea shore near Battery Park with a friend. He told me that the baby boomers would keep on pumping money into the stock market, and...

    Worldco Going Out of Business

In investment banks, the corporate ladder usually goes like this: Associate ---> Vice President ----> Principal ---> Managing Director Sometimes, there is a rank called Assistant Vice President too. If your friend can be promoted three times in few months, he must have some serious...

    Worldco Going Out of Business

After the merging, most of my friends, who originally worked at UBS were forced out by the SBC people. That included Quantitative Analyst, Business Analyst, Manager of a Risk Management Division, Programmers, Consultants, etc. Politics is politics. Every place is the same. I personally also...

No Job at All! Trading Screwed Labor Dept report.

IMHO: There will be little job recovery in the high tech or IT area. Not only companies pay less for outsourcing, they may get better quality on average. For example, if you pay a programmer US$20 per hour in the States, he/she will keep on complaining, and look for a better job continuously...

This pair of hypothetical friends have different background, and have chosen different paths. Chances are they act and think VERY differently. There will be big communication problems for people from two different worlds. Try not to mix friendship with business. When there is conflict of...

Does a Wash Sale Only Matter for EOY Positions?

Suppose you've sold a call option at a loss. Buying another call option on the same stock within the wash sale period may be viewed as a wash sale even if the new call option has a different expiration or a different strike price. http://www.fairmark.com/capgain/wsoption.htm The options...

    What's different now from 1997 and 1998...?

IMHO: Most of the dumb money has been slaughtered in the past three years. The market may be more rationally. With less volatility, it may be easier for swing trading, and more difficult for daytrading. :p :p :p :D :D :D

No Job at All! Trading Screwed Labor Dept report.

IMHO: We should be grateful for all the new technologies, cheap online brokers, etc. to make trading more comfortable. Ten years ago, the commissions of the full-service brokers, bid-ask spreads, etc. were simply too big. The barriers to entry used to be much higher. :p :p :p :D :D :D
