Anyone heard of Madison Proprietary Trading, LLC?

Is that the Generic office in NYC? I don't know anything about them, but was wondering if that's who you're talking about.

Firms with the largest short list

"I guess you never traded an IPO on the first day of issue through an institutional desk." No, not as a daytrader, I haven't. But you apparently have some sort of special arrangement where you can mark a trade as a long sell, when you are actually going short. Must be nice... I imagine that...

Firms with the largest short list

"I bet you thought IPO's were not shortable on day one!" You CANNOT mark IPO's naturally short within the first 30 trading days (minimum), regardless of the firm's [long] position. Think about it... to mark a trade "short", it needs to be done in what most firms call a type 3 account. Type...

CBD Trading Group - is this an Echo spinoff?

I called them today and got voicemail, but they haven't called back yet.

Firms with the largest short list

"i think self clearing prop firms like assent have horrible lists because few traders hold overnight so there inventory is terrible" That's not how it works. Being able to locate stock for shorts is typically done through a third party BD, if your firm is small, or self-clearing. Better...

Firms with the largest short list

"If a stock is not on the short list of a firm, does that mean it is IMPOSSIBLE to short it " Not at all... usually a phone call and a 'locate' is possible. At least, at the prop firms I know.

    Shorting on downticks (2/2/06)

"why do brokers require you to open a margin account to short stocks?..." Actually, it's a technicality... natural shorts must be done in a "type 3" account (that's what most brokers call it), and type 3 accounts cannot be opened without a margin agreement. This is the reason you can't short...

Thanks for all the ideas... I'll pass this on to him.

BP - How does Buying Power work

Extended? It means the firm doesn't need to borrow any money. Typically, if you add all the trader's balances up, plus whatever the firm contributes to the "pool", it would be rare for all traders to have positions at the same time, which would exceed 6:1 on the balance (6 times is usually what...

    Cheapest real-time charts?

A friend asked me if I knew what the cheapest intraday stock charting service was, and I don't. No frills... yet, still "real-time". Well, as real-time as the internet gets, anyway. 'Cheap' is the main feature he's seeking. Googling this topic produces a lot of junk. thanks

BP - How does Buying Power work

Intraday margin (your "40:1") often carries little or no cost, because the firm typically isn't extended. It's the overnight positions that will usually cost you.

Why would successful traders join/stay in a prop firm?

Yeah, StreamlineTrade... the deal you metioned would be horrible for a prop trader in the US who trades equities. Unless you were given millions in buying power, I don't even think deals like that exist.

Why would successful traders join/stay in a prop firm?

"If the arcade provides 50% margin, you only keep 50% profit - yet still have to pay the fees." That doesn't make any sense. Or, maybe I got lost in the translation.

All In Deals - Are they worth it if you trade listed?

I've never heard of a firm that includes SEC fees into your rate... does that exist? Generally, in life, you get what you pay for.

    ETG+Schoney?

"The deal will bring 325 traders into the Schonfeld fold... ETG's proprietary traders and retail trading customers trade on average 5 million shares a day." With only 5 mil/day shares and 325 traders, I'm surprised they were able to stay in business this long.

    Top 30 traders under 30

I was thinking the 350k was quite low. My first thought was, are times really that bad? (I don't think they are.) But, to be in the "top 30" with only an estimated 350k is sad.

"can you short stocks at prop firms" Are you serious, or did I miss a joke somewhere in the last 30 pages or so?
