Firms with the largest short list

interesting proposal alanm, it might be a bit difficult though because for SLK, SWIFT and ML, i just have a list that was given to me recently but each list was for a different date, so im not sure how we can compare them re % gainers and unusual volume stocks which occur on a specific day. ie...

Firms with the largest short list

Thanks Serge. Here are the results with the new Genesis list..noteworthy is the significant improvement in Genesis' list (GNDT) and also the addition of Merrill Lynch (ML). Also noteworthy is the addition of GNDTML which represents the combined list of Genesis and Merrill (simulating if you had...

Is it just me or has Genesis's easy to borrow list grown dramatically over the last few days? Has anybody else noticed this? Anyone from Genesis care to comment?

    Ameritrade question on "Trade Triggers"

Ameritrade Apex has Trade Triggers. Also, i dont see any way of placing Market on Open or Limit on Open through Ameritrade Apex. Although the Supermontage route (NASDAQ) is available, there is no "OPEN ONLY" qualifier anywhere.

Firms with the largest short list

Well put. The stocks were not just "in play" stocks but covered a wide spectrum so i think its representative. However, i agree about the limitation that the lists change daily and so these results should be taken with a few grains of salt.

forgot to mention that the simulation test in the previous post only traded NASDAQ stocks

Firms with the largest short list

Ran a simulation from 1/1/2005-now of a short trading system i have. Checked all the symbols traded by my system against 4 short lists: RML, Genesis, IB, SLK (Goldman). RML, Genesis, IB lists were obtained from their websites. SLK list was sent to me by a colleague. Note that if one symbol was...

    Novel Idea re Shorting

Good point. This would only be available to traders who KNOW that they will be out by EOD since that is their strategy or trading style. Traders who may or may not be out by EOD will not have that luxury and would have to go through the normal process of doing a locate. As for trading halts, i...

Firms with the largest short list

Well, what if the trader doesnt have a series 7 and is trading with an LLC or in a "retail account"...theoretically if the software tells me i can short this stock, how can i know otherwise...If its not the clearing firm, then its gotta be the broker/dealer that should be responsible.

Firms with the largest short list

Thanks to all posters. Who would be responsible legally if a trader is naked shorting: the broker, the clearing firm or the trader? It doesnt make sense that the trader would be responsible. I guess ultimately its the clearing firm that should bear the brunt of it.

Firms with the largest short list

Thanks to all posters. Thats interesting bighitter1, maybe we should be asking which firms currently allow intraday naked shorting too?! Why bother with determining the size of a short list when you can sign up to short anything under the sun intraday... well hopefully momo trader99 will tell...

    Novel Idea re Shorting

I think its a great idea to allow naked shorting as long as the position is intraday. Whether the stock has been "located" for you in advance or not, you would still have to cover if the stock rises a lot intraday, so what real good does "locating it" do? Since its intraday, i think the amount...

  17. G

Firms with the largest short list

If you use a broker dealer which has clearing through say Goldman or Merrill, which i presume are the best in terms of short availability, are there still a lot of stocks that simply cannot be shorted with these firms (cant even be located for you at all)? Any estimate? Whats been people's...

Firms with the largest short list

Will the number of shortable stocks solely depend on how many clearing firm accounts are holding the stock or are there other factors?..If thats the case, then i guess to guarantee the most extensive list, one would just go with any firm clearing through Goldman or Merrill, period. What are all...

Yes PM me too for that. Did the moderator remove a post made by Surdo yesterday where he discussed his positive experience with shorting stocks at Carlin group or did Surdo remove it himself, im not sure. The whole point of this thread is for people to talk about their experiences at different...
