    Market data provider, also european

Thanks, acronym, I'm interested in downloading the data to use with my charting software. I'm not sure of how much data would be needed for proper backtesting, I was thinking the more the better. (?) Also forex data would be appreciated.

    Market data provider, also european

Hi, where can I get EOD-data for stocks. I want as much data as possible. I'd preferably have it in ascii format. Can I count on yahoo or MSN EOD-data to be correct? Is there any place to get data for european stocks, dax, aex, spain, italy, sweden? Yahoo and MSN don't have that much...

What results to look for in backtesting systems?

Hi, I'm backtesting some systems. What are the key results i need to look for? What are some usual pitfalls? Z-ratio? standard deviation (per trade/week/year?) Win/loss-ratio? Number of trades? procent per trade? Days held? And obviously a nice _positive_ return would be nice! :D

    Why is insider trading bad

But if you turn the plate. If an insider knows beforehand of, say, a merge with another company, that will definatly lead to a great rise in stock prices, and then acts on this by buying lots of stock. The guys who sell would lose in this situation. Of course they would have sold in either case...

    Placing cash with Managed Funds

Both long and short positions call for some sort of a hedge fund. Mutual funds don't short.

what has been you "tuition fee" to become successful?

Don't lose money to learn. But lose money to earn money - there are inevitable losses for every winning. You know the cut your losses short, let your profits run thing... You don't have to lose to learn. If you have a good strategy you don't have to lose to learn. Develop your strategy with...

what has been you "tuition fee" to become successful?

In other words: Time? As much as you got! your competing against people/companies who do this for a living 24 hours a day. Is your couple of hours a week enough to compete? Money? As little as possible! Why lose money at all? I guess it's somewhat inevitable, but still. Make sure you know...

what has been you "tuition fee" to become successful?

If you mean how much money to lose while trading? I'd say as little as possible. Be sure you papertrade and backtest enough before you give your money to the markets. Than trade small small small. Then add a little. then a little. While learning: You can probably borrow most of the books...

    Common courtesy on Elitetrader?

What's the point with posting "I'm not going to answer the question, you're stupid!" posts really? I've noticed this behaviour on ET. Does it make you feel smarter to not help out a newbie or answer, according to you, dumb questions? If you don't have any answer to the questions, you're as...

TA - same on different timeframes?

Can someone comment on whether one is likely to find most well established trends in which timeframe? I hear some say there are more in intraday than daily, is this correct? Where do you find most? Thanks!

MEtastock and amibroker giving different test results?

Well, honestly I don't have very much experience with either. I know for a fact that my indicators are identical, as they can be compared side by side. So either there is a bug in metastock, or the system rules are different. I guess it could even be both. I'll check out the yahoo group...

MEtastock and amibroker giving different test results?

Hi, what's up with metastock and amibroker giving different results when I test the same system? I'm having a hard time setting up a test that would be realistic. Metastock seems to close all positions the same day, I'm position trading. I am using good until canceled orders, trailing...

TA - same on different timeframes?

I don't understand what the difference is between a MA for 20 days and a MA for 20 hours or a MA for 20 minutes and how there could be a difference in speed as you say. Do you mean that intraday price tend to not trend that much and therefore when an MA would start to point upward the price...

TA - same on different timeframes?

Ok thanks. Any input on wether a system could be more profitable or not in smaller timeframes? This would obviously be the result of more trades, of course, and: number of trades*profit per trade while daytrading would be greater than number of trades*profit per trade while position...

TA - same on different timeframes?

Could a system that works for EOD trading also be used in daytrading? For example if I have a 20 day MA and a 5 day MA and a cross gives a buy signal. Could this also be applied in daytrading, like a 20 hour MA and a 5 hour MA, or a 20 minute MA and a 5 minute MA? And also a 20 week...

ETers, what do you do with your pennies?

For some years ago Sweden arranged a national charity event, when they decided to abandon the 10 Öre coin. (1 swedish krona is 100 öre) People could either put the money in their bankaccounts and by that get rid of thier soon to be worthless 10 öres, or give their 10 öre coins to a...
