It´s the exchange (not the broker) who takes your money. CME charges outrageous fees for E-Minis - and here comes the trick: No volume discount for their exchange fees ! :p 2000 contracts per month is 2000 * $1.14 in exchange fees.

No, there is no rip-off with respect to IB. Although I would consider certain exchange fees as a rip-off. Simply avoid contracts with high exchange fees (like all the CME Globex stuff) ... :p

You cannot trade open outcry markets with IB. Maybe you want to trade "Mini-Crude" QM (NYMEX) and "Mini-Gold" YG (CBOT) instead ?

With "Refco PRO" you pay $0.25 per side and get a very reliable platform. Or have a look at "Transact Futures" and do the math for 250 rt/month.
