    Today's market opening prediction thread

You misinterpret my post. I'm not against short selling, and I would never be a proponent of banning it. I don't even like the short sale restriction rule. I just don't expect to see as much downward pressure today since most stocks & ETFs are on SSR.

    Today's market opening prediction thread

Stocks & ETF's go into short sale restriction until the end of the following day after they drop 10% or more from the previous close. Short selling is still allowed, but it has to be done on an uptick.

    Today's market opening prediction thread

After yesterday, most stocks & ETFs are on short sell restriction. I wouldn't predict a big downward move today. These are unpredictable times though, so who knows.

GOP fights COVID sick paid leave after approving 3 trillion in corporate welfare

It's my understanding that the bipartisan House bill that passed Friday provides paid sick for 2 weeks for anyone that works at a company of less than 500 people. You would have to think that large corporations will provide paid sick leave for their employees that test positive for the virus as...

If There Is A Virus X

I've been thinking the same thing. I think the level of fear we've seen thus far has been somewhat irrational. But maybe expecting the masses to react rationally to a global pandemic is irrational in and of itself.

29 minutes ago: Coronavirus finally levels off in locations outside China

This is my take as well. It's estimated that up to 650K people die every year from the flu. The U.S. has already had 16K deaths this season from the flu. There have been 2 known cases of COVID-19 in my state. There are 2 people out sick with the flu in my office. We don't know where this path...

Great inventions from Africa, Central America , even Asia ???

I've never really studied this out, but I would have to assume that the majority of significant innovation has come from the most advanced societies at any given point in time throughout history. You're much more likely to see innovation come out of a country with advanced education than from a...

Trump attempts to blame Obama for coronavirus test kit shortage

I'm not sure how widely available FDA pre-approved tests are for the coronavirus, but Trump's comments make more sense with context: https://dailycaller.com/2020/03/04/trump-administration-obama-fda-rule-coronavirus-testing/ Trump Administration Reverses Obama-Era Regulation Responsible For...

Disgraceful... Schumer Threatens Kavanaugh and Gorsuch over Abortion

There's nothing wrong with publicly criticizing judicial decisions, but threatening judges based of their decisions is crossing a line. I'm surprised that Schumer would make a mistake that blatant. He's typically more calculated than that.

Don't traders protect our financial market by report the illegally manipulating Tesla/Google to ?

Markets move based off overall sentiment. The strongest sentiment over the past week and half has been fear that we could have a global pandemic that pushes us into a recession. Markets have started to bounce back due to the fact that there is strong sentiment that the Fed will cut interest...

Which democratic candidate is least likely to succeed in passing a stock transaction tax?

https://thehill.com/policy/finance/484433-financial-trade-tax-gains-traction-with-2020-democrats Former Vice President Joe Biden expressed support for an FTT in a December CNBC interview, and his campaign said that more details would be put forward when Biden releases a spending proposal that...

    Bernie can't win they say

I disagree pretty strongly with this assessment. HRC was fairly moderate candidate in comparison to Sanders. I'm sure she received a fair amount of votes from moderates & centrists. Many of these voters could flip to Trump because Sanders is too far left for their political ideology. The next...

Will zero commissions lead to sharper sell-offs?

That's not something I would predict. Retail investors only account for ~10% of trading volume, and I don't see institutional investors changing the way they trade due to zero commissions. A financial transaction tax could change things significantly though.

    Bernie can't win they say

I'm just trying to look at it from a neutral perspective. Sanders could easily win the nomination by appealing to the far left faction of the Democratic party, but I don't see him appealing to enough moderates & centrists to win the general election. IMO, Biden or Bloomberg would have a much...

    Bernie can't win they say

The stats are approximate, but they should be fairly accurate. https://news.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/06/26/facts-about-democrats/

    Bernie can't win they say

I don't see it happening. Democrats only make up about 30% of the U.S. voting base, and over half of them identify as moderate or conservative. Sanders may very well win the candidacy, but there's no way he'll garner enough support from centrists to win the general election. IMO, If Sanders...

Trump Cutting Taxes For Stock Traders?

You hit the nail on the head. Our last balanced budget was in 2001. Since then, inflation is up 46%, federal tax collections are up 74%, and government spending is up an astounding 121%! We don't have a tax collection problem, we have a spending problem.

    Universal Based Income

I saw an interesting poll once in regards to healthcare. People were asked if they supported "free" healthcare, and the vast majority said yes. But then they were asked if they would support "free" healthcare if it meant their taxes would go up to pay for it, and the vast majority said no. The...
