Few days back wall street journal published an article saying that late day surge in volume and prices are due to new ETFs, whose fund managers buy or sell depending upon new orders. others have blamed late day price movements to hedge fund redemptions.

There are people out again saying that Nov 08 was bottom and we should see market going up from here, because recession will be over by second half of 2009. And, because stock market is 6 -9 months early, it should be bottom. I am not sure what makes them so sure, but isn't this worst...

To me, it seems that it is forming a wedge, as most of the other stocks and indexes. We will have to see which side it breaks.

What indicator(s) you are looking to confirm that market has bottomed? 1. When market consistently rises in face of bad news (day like today)? 2. MA going up, and market above 200 DMA - you may miss most of the move. 3. Rising volume on updays, and decreasing volume on down days. Others?
