    Dumb money is returning

There could be a lot of tax selling in the new year. It could be quite tempting to take profits and sit on cash and not pay tax for a year

    Placing cash with Managed Funds

You may want to look at some of the managed funds that are backed up by a government agency. In Canada the Canadian Wheat board, CMHC and business development bank all have products with a AAA credit rating.

    Cotton trading

Why do you want to trade cotton? You could try contacting cotton wholesalers to take physical ownership. If storage pays you may have less overall slippage that with futures. A quick google search yielded the White Gold Association. http://www.wgacotton.com/index.aspx Cottons ease of...

    Is Trading like Gambling?

This is how I see it. Gambling is taking on artificial risk that was created for the sake of entertainment. Trading is taking on risk that occurs as a result of everyday business transactions. To me there is more than enough "natural risk" in the world that there is no need for...

    Grains Journal

I don't want to be offensive but it sound to me that you are a little over confident from your very profitable grain trades. With your one put to one future you are only about 60% hedged. While you downside is limited There is no way to put a dollar amount on it. Your strike could get pinned...

options on NQ so wide? (ask/bid)

You may find with NQ options that if you place a limit order inside the bid/ask that you will get some reasonable fills. I have not done this my self but this is how ES options were a few years ago. I think it is liquidity spilling over from other markets, with computure always searching for arb...

IF ES trades above 1378 before Thanksgiving I will leave ET for a week!

Since thanksgiving was a week ago it is not much of a prediction.

    Grains Journal

If you want a form of profit protection why not consider selling your futures and using some of the profits to buy calls? Since you are buying premium anyways this will allow you to clearly define your profit and risk. I guess the other way to look at it is how are your going to unwind you...

    Bye-bye reg T

Not a moment too soon. Only a government could come up with something as Dumb as reg T. I have tried to explain it too people in the grain business and then reply with a very basic explanation of the options market "so actually your risk is the same as....." they say.

    Best ags traders in london/paris/geneva

I can't answer your question but I have sometimes wondered what the basis trading and grain trading business is like over there. I would think the heavily subsidies farmers who expect the government to look after them would be more likely to sell there grain at harvest and not worry abut it. Do...

    ***my First Post***

Please keep in mind that most of the insults hurled on ET are things that people hate about themselves. The way I look at is you have four $5000 deposits for a prop trading account. If you are really dedicated you will make money before you blow up four times. Do not trade with garbage...

Hints for an hour long mock trading session at CME

Let us know what you are trading. If it is a mock pit environment you need to go in with a cheat sheet with the previous days high and low, S/R levels. Depending on what you are trading you can either fade moves to resistance or play breakouts through S/R levels.

Funding an account with a T-Bill.

How about a broker that has access to both the cash bond market like ICAP and access to the future exchanges. How much would you have to have to get a major bank prime broker to take you on? I have often thought that if you had 10 million and you had to live on the proceeds the best way to do it...

    Borrowing money from Japanese Banks

Hey maybe the cheap money in Japan is the source of the world's risk capital? Could there be a connection between yen money supply, yen exchange rates and price of risky assets (like stocks)?

    Performance fees

As it becomes widely know what it is that I do I have started getting request to help people manage there CAD/USD fx exposure. I think there is a big enough market to reach critical mass just with people that I know or are friends of friends. Right now the way that it is usually done if done...

Which stocks would you hold for 30 years?

I think you best bet is the QQQQ or SPY. It would be very hard to beat the index because of the survivorship basis. All it would take is for one of you companies to go down the tubes (think Eastman Kodak) and you will underperform. There might be some exceptions like "to big to fail financials"...

    Trading in sleepy markets.

Try the same thing on the Friday after the Thursday American thanksgiving. I love trading on that day. I also like to hedge my positions with long options for this style of trading.
