I'm not sure either of these rules are correct. Ignore never. Take it in, take it all in. Observe the delirium and the panic and position yourself accordingly.
So, to use your example, if you're long 2 ES 1400 FEB Calls then at expiration (assuming that they're in the money) you will end up LONG 2 ES.
If you're long 2 ES 1400 MARCH (ITM) Calls then at expiration you will be settled with cash.
R=Amount Risked on the trade. ie the amount you were willing to risk before being stopped out.
For example: If R is $100 then total P/L(after commission): $252
