GOOG headed for the teens ?

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/google-advertisers-cutting-spending-keyword/story.aspx?guid=%7BE9B9CEA8%2DEA47%2D48C6%2DA91F%2D69F53F018AE2%7D Wow - online advertising proving to be very expensive and somewhat ineffective. Could this be March 2000 deja vu all over again ?

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

Does this sound familiar ? ER2 futures had a repeat performance of last week's big move. And strangely, it did get better....for those short after 10 am or so. I glad you are pulling the plug.

    Worst offer ever.....

Is there anything positive about this offering ? I THINK NOT: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/acc/254039316.html Prop/Career trading moving to new lows....

X-Trader with no monthly fee! New Transactional Model.

I reviewed the press releases on X_STUDY and it does not appear to have any capability for building your own indicators, or alerts or strategies. Is that correct ? Sheesh...at minimal it should have the ability to link into custom DLL's for instance.

Odds Czar: Simple Biases in the Futures Markets 2007

http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~mkearns/papers/plat.pdf Check it out. Notice the mention of "microstructure" of the market. These guys are attempting to exploit minor and temporary market inefficiencies in an automated fashion...thus, they are going after ticks, and short-duration trades. SOBI for...

Odds Czar: Simple Biases in the Futures Markets 2007

#4: This is flying against the trend of high-frequency systems employed by hedge funds. Demand for PhD system-builders is phenomenal. If simple were better, there would be no demand for these gurus. #6: Now even retail futures firms are offering incredibly low commission rates for high volume...

How to print out a long thread?

printthread.php has a limit as to the number of pages it can output. I checked with ET webmaster about it....it's a known problem. Threads should be stopped after about 200 pages or so and continued as separate threads.

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

Exactly. After 10 am EST, it was nearly straight down. It can't get, and it won't get much better than this unless we go nuclear ala October 1987. Astute traders who went short at 10 am were "up" at least $700 per contract by the close.

Exactly.....use backtesting here, not Markowitz unless you've got dozens of systems in the mix. To add to the sophistication, employe some sort of allocation algorithm to determine the percentages of capital each system is given.

There seems to be very few Big Indepentdent Traders.....

If anyone has heard the "Pit Bull" story by Marty Schwartz, then the above rings very true. Marty was extremely successful until he started trading OPM.

    Question for short players

Sorry, Dude, you're gonna be real disappointed in trying to short with a retail account. You've gotta go Pro or Prop to get a great short list. When I traded Prop, we'd just ask for the short, and get it within 30 minutes....sometimes less. Didn't matter how obscure the stock was either. Best...

There seems to be very few Big Indepentdent Traders.....

Eric Bolling, the energy trader, and one of the "Fab 4" on CNBC's "Fast Money" show. comes to mind. He was up 20 million last year alone. Not sure where he stands this year. Seems he has branched into equities, and even equity index futures as well.

    why prop and not futures?

Doubtful. It's mostly a matter of paying for the data feeds and then getting much less of a "cut" from the commissions. Bottomline: It's not that profitable for them. Also, surprisingly, no one brought-up the favorable tax treatment of futures profits vs. equity/equity option profits.

    order mistakes & validation

In the platform I'm using, the interface for entering OCO orders can be a bit clumsy....I end-up making a duplicate of the first order, and then modifying it. I wanted to put in a profit-taking order below my entry price (I was short) and a stop-loss order above it, but because I forgot to...

So much money, too few Ferraris

This is so classic: "Where are the customer's yachts ?" (pre-2000) Now changed to: "Where are the customer's Ferrari's ?" (post-2000) Occurs at all tops.

I wouldn't be surprised if volume on the ER2 began to surpass the S&P emini contract pretty soon. The ES has just become so STAID.

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

Yes, the ER2, although in a strong up-move, was wild today. I actually was short in the afternoon, and despite being up late in the afternoon, I did not cover in time and was handed a loss with the final strong move up. I totally agree. The bot is not taking advantage of the opening move and...
