How best to make money in mkt crash?

I put in a Nov 950-800 Put Vert spread, cost about 22. Then added a Sept 30 1125 Call long 36 , Aug 20 1120 Call short 29.60 Calendar Spread, cost 6.40 (if quotes are right). It looks much better in Hoadley. Will be profit at 1150 or lower on Aug 20, in fact 6,000+ gain if 1125. +500 if...

How best to make money in mkt crash?

I checked out Nov 800-950 Calls, for Globex it shows 295-168 so about 23 cost. Using puts its 15-37 or 22 cost. So using puts seems easier. And is the original strategy I was planning. BTW in IB I have choice of Globex and CME, which is better? Is there better spreads on another...

How best to make money in mkt crash?

Interesting ideas. jj90 will look into that, try it in Hoadley. Ammo, I will compare that to buying a 940 Put, it does have 14 to 1 potential. Maybe go further out and diagonalize it. Redeye, could be a big winner, but obvious big theta hit. Athlon, if remember right that is a...

How best to make money in mkt crash?

Hi, Been a couple of years since have been on the options board here. I have become quite negative on mkt, and think a crash may be imminent. Part of the reason is think we are in depression not a recession, and have thought that since Oct 2008. So far still think that is the case. The %...

    Strong stocks

Hi Cybercash, Its been a while since I have posted on Elite, saw this thread, and thus checked it out. But every post seems to be made by you, and there are pages of them. Is that the design of this thread or can anyone post? I have a few stocks think are gems long term and good setups...

Calendar Spreads on SPX vs SPY, decay wise

Hi Don, SPY was not part of the trade. It was a DITM comparison issue with SPY, as no backwardation but early exercise (and thus comms loss) to SPX which does not have early exercize danger but does have backwardation. I follow your concept on non-linear loss of backwardation, but if...

SPX Backwardation on DITM Sep-Mar Calendar Spread, will it gain?

The question is will a SPX Sep-Mar 1700 Put DITM Calendar Spread with the Mar being Long and Sep being Short gain or lose value if the SPX stays even thru Sept? Have looked into it. Sept 1700 Puts are at 226 = 1474 and Sept SPX at 1473.70 so the DITM Put is trading at parity. And SPY is at...

Calendar Spreads on SPX vs SPY, decay wise

Will move to new title, SPX DITM Put Calendar Backwardation Vs SPY In case others with Backwardation knowledge have not picked up on this tread is really ended up being about that. The question is will a SPX Sep-Mar 1700 Put DITM Calendar Spread with the Mar being Long and Sep being Short...

Calendar Spreads on SPX vs SPY, decay wise

Don and Xflat, Been looking at it more. If the SPX goes up to the strike the DITM Put Cal will indeed make a good profit (checked the ATM Sept-Mar) But you are saying the backwardization(BKW) will get bigger at expiration if the SPX stays where it is. My objective is the cheapest...

Patriot Hero Aaron Russo Passes Away

Aaron was a character. The first time I met him blew up at me because I said something in defense of Gingrich, who Aaron thought was anti gun rights. Later noticed that Aaron has done some excellent work on fighting news censorship, which I consider the biggest problem America has today...

Calendar Spreads on SPX vs SPY, decay wise

With the SPY the longer term options are always worth more than the shorter ones. But with SPX the March Puts are worth a lot less than the September ones. Some questions: 1. Since you can sell a Sept 170Put SPX for 232 and buy a March 170P for 213, does that mean the calendar spread has...

Getting Out of Calendar Spread that is locked DITM

It ate my title, which was got out of 7 for only .10 sprd loss. I put combo trade for 14.90 (15 fair mkt price) so gave up $70 for 2.5 months or annualized $350 interest on $10,500 equity tied up or about 3.25% interest, so better than my margain cost. The question remains is the other...

Getting Out of Calendar Spread that is locked DITM

Thanks spindr. As these days we can make the bid and ask, we can get around the MM, my B+A shows, so another retail customer can hit it, or whoever is on other side of trade, but they are not. So maybe they are are getting interest on $15k with no capital up front, just a little bit of...

this was in 2005 and maybe he is wrong, but FYI Traders Accounting provides tax consulting, entity formation, tax preparation and 401(k) services that help you efficiently establish and maintain your trading business. They teach you the IRS rules that allow you, as a trader, to deduct the...

    NDX/QQQQ---SPX/SPY---RUT/IWM---Which Options Better???

Found this below. I think both Cash and Futures settled would be 1256 tax wise? He did not deal with stock settled for some reason. Are there any cash settled stock futures not indexes that get 1256 treatment? Am guessing not. What are Options? From Adam Milton, Your Guide to...

Getting Out of Calendar Spread that is locked DITM

I am long the 170s. Am more than willing to wait for expire except the tieup of capital. Am not worried about losing profit. Would guess that any strat to get the capital back would be as bad as paying the spread to close. So have a question, is the other side of teh trade actually...

Getting Out of Calendar Spread that is locked DITM

It is with IB. The 19.80 spread is pretty good idea, just cost $200. On "middle" price I would have to watch it. I do not think I can exercise both sides, as one side is short. Thanks everyone for the tips.
