11 cases a Put seller should know

Agree with BWS that theta is important (and gamma, especially as you get close to expiration). Also, the delta of the put when you sell is important. You always want the premium to ultimately fall, but there are many variables involved that effect it.

Beware of so called “ Professional Traders”

Here's a good article on this subject: https://noahpinion.substack.com/p/on-bullshit-in-investing

What to tell people I do instead of saying Day trading?

I ran across another one you could use to really confuse people. Tell them you deal in exotic derivatives like geometric dispersion baskets, corridor variance swap spreads, and skew locks. I have never heard of those, but the "exotic derivatives" would make you sound, well, exotic. It's...

Implied Volatility Chart For Single Names

tastyworks is free too (you have to sign up for an account, but you don't have to fund it). It has IV and IV Rank. I think the IVR is more useful than just the IV for individual stocks.

How long does it take for options orders to get filled?

Yeah, a half-hour to get filled at market doesn't make sense; unless it's just a delay due to paper trading.

How long does it take for options orders to get filled?

It's not normal for me on TOS, but I don't know about IB. Maybe it's because it's an index. I trade SPY.

What to tell people I do instead of saying Day trading?

I actually like your first reply Illini. If a female asks, you could always say you fix broken-wing butterflies. She'll love you. :)

How long does it take for options orders to get filled?

I buy both legs at the same time on TOS. They automatically put the price between the bid/ask. I do have to adjust it sometimes depending on the market and how badly I want the trade. I mainly sell put/call verticals or buy diagonals.

Being both long and short at same time

Isn't going both long and short like a synthetic stock (at least in options)? I do that sometimes if I'm pretty certain on direction (buy a call and sell a put or vice versa). It's much cheaper than buying or shorting the stock. I didn't watch the video, so I may be missing something.

How long does it take for options orders to get filled?

I almost always get filled between the bid/ask on highly liquid ETFs and stocks - and usually very quickly. It can be a little harder if you're trading spreads, but it doesn't sound like you'll be doing that. Also, it may depend on your broker, as someone mentioned.

Can someone recommend me a good (hopefully free) stock scanner?

Stock Rover is pretty good. I'm doing a 30-day trial now, but I don't think I'm going to pay for the service, since I primarily trade options. It's pretty in-depth though.

What to tell people I do instead of saying Day trading?

I just say, "At this time, I'm exploring a lot of options." Which is true, but then they just think I'm unemployed. I have a buddy (who's not a trader) that use to tell people when asked that question, "I'm going to school to be a rodeo clown." He'd get some funny looks and it turned out to be...

    What's wrong with Iron Condors

Question as a newbie: Is there a buyer/seller opposite every spread or do market makers use single call/put buyers/sellers to offset? It seems to me that market makers would not have to automatically offset positions by the exact same position if they can gather single buy/sells to offset...

why I just loaded June calls on the silver train

If you're expecting a quick reversal, why not buy the May calls? I'm not questioning the trade, I just would like to understand the benefits of a further out expiration when expecting a quick reversal move. Thanks.

    Options bought or sold?

Nothing new to share. I've just been lurking around ET for a couple months, and just want to thank y'all for the discussions that I've learned a lot from. Yeah, there are some pissing contests typical of all forums, but I always get something I can dig into more. This thread is one of...
