    Jasper's Last Stand

I'm always flat at close and found it works quite well to just take the opening print at 8:30 CST based on what side your system says you should be in. The first hour of day is usually my best.

    Jasper's Last Stand

Curious if you use a hard stop or set stop at the volatility flip line? I know it's tough to take the heat sometimes but I have found you got to give the trade room to maneuver.

Nicely done. Of course it might go down more but you can't argue with profits!

    Jasper's Last Stand

We all suffer the same problem. I didn't get a close below my 793.20 stop so should have stayed long and did until 12:03pm CST when the YM, NQ, AND ES all broke down through support. I thought for SURE ER2 would be going lower so I exited at 793.9 I should still be long now at 796.40 but I...

    Jasper's Last Stand

You just have to set your mind to it I think. That's why I like to scalp part of my position for "x" ticks profit and ride the remainder until I get a signal reversal. I'm still long 1 contract and hope we go up. My reversal signal is now at 793.2 so I'd be around breakeven if we reverse now...

    Jasper's Last Stand

I hope it works out 'cause I'm right there with ya, entering at 793. Stop at 791.6 My target for 1 contract is 794.6 I was up $600 after buying 3 contracts at open but this whipsaw now has me up only $100 or so... Hang in there!

    Jasper's Last Stand

I have the same problem you do. I took mine off at 788.5 and I'm lightly kicking myself since it went to 791 (so far). Of course if we reverse, I'll likely get short about where I took it off so it would have been a wash... I trade 2 lots frequently. Build a log of the maximum gain all...

    Tick versus Time based bars....

Interesting - I've never seen that before. Only the last bar of the day is not the proper volume size which I attibute to the fact that they seem to "reset" things at midnight.

    Tick versus Time based bars....

No idea - I'm just an eSignal user and was glad to hear the news so I passed it along. I haven't had many problems at all with volume bars for ER2. I have noticed that the start time for the first bar of each day is somewhat random (just after midnight) but I assume this is because there...

    Tick versus Time based bars....

Good news - eSignal will soon offer constant range (or tick) charts: Sent: Monday, January 22, 2007 10:41 AM Subject: RE: Constant Range bars Thank you for the interest. Range bars will be coming in the next version of eSignal and will be entered as something such as .25R or 1R. We'll...

What chart type? Time, tick or volume

They will be soon - just heard this: Sent: Monday, January 22, 2007 10:41 AM Subject: RE: Constant Range bars Thank you for the interest. Range bars will be coming in the next version of eSignal and will be entered as something such as .25R or 1R. We'll be starting an external beta for...

    Pictures of your trading stations

I did not drill any holes in my monitors. Every monitor is different but for my NEC monitors I was able to disassemble the plastic base it come on and reuse the metal bracket that attached the monitor to the orginal base. It allows you to tilt monitor so I just swung it out 90 deg. so I could...

Build your own custom stand GammaTheta. I used 2x4s, plywood, some stain and varnish. Works great, looks great, and won't reduce your trading capital! Most purchased stands don't allow the lower monitors to get as close to the desk as I like. See bottom of Page 245 for front view of my setup...

    Jasper's Last Stand

Thanks for the chart Jasper. You're right - it's not nearly as smooth using 3-min. charts as your constant range charts.

    Jasper's Last Stand

Jasper, I'm close to getting my eSignal scripting language to produce a volatility stop. Not nearly as clean as yours but it's a start. Since I don't have constant range charts, can you do me a favor and take a snapshot of your chart today (1/17) using 3 min. bars? Whatever your standard...

    Very basic question

Call your broker and ask them. Normally you have to specify which YM contract to trade. YM H7 is March 2007 contract but exact format varies for different brokers and trading platforms. Good luck.

    Very basic question

Current initial margin required to trade YM and hold overnight is $2437 per contract. Most day trading brokers only require $500 (or less) margin for intraday trading - going home flat each night. All usually have a minimum balance you must maintain however. Hope this helps. :D

    Jasper's Last Stand

Jasper, I like your very simple system. I have a similar one I've been trading off/on using Point Break (or Line Break) Charts. I have found that backtesting the past 2 months (~250 signals), I can significantly optimize the profit per contract by applying 2 simple filters - 1) not...
