Why did the Fed cut rates a half if T assures us that everything is fine with CV?

Oh, ok. I always thought it was the aliens.

I have to disagree. Most of technical trading is about knowing how to think, what the best practices are and finally what has blown people up. That type of stuff can only be learned via an apprenticeship (and no, books are mostly garbage). Because of this required foundation, where you started...

Who exactly is "they" that own 80% of the US ETFs?

Being in the right place at the right time some 20 years ago (remind me, where did you start your career?) was a matter of luck, not skill. Same goes for me. I could wax lyrical about how I came here with $150 and a dream, but the reality is that I had a lot going for me. My parents are both...

Can’t Raise Money, Can’t Cash Out: The Hedge Fund Conundrum

It's not related to the coronavirus, it's been in the works for a few months. I heard that Robbins was planning to convert his fund to a family office back in October.

It's over. Historical bull run has come to an end.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the first protozoans did not concern themselves with PE ratios either. However, some financial concepts (interest rates, bonds, shares, buy low sell high) have been around since the middle ages. I don't know how much free time do you have, but this is a fun book about...

    Fully automated futures trading

What is this, a vocabulary night? :D A lot of institutions are forced to trade things - hedge, cover their positions, show lower risk for the books. All of these trades are done not because they love to sell futures specifically if it rains at 2pm, but because they have no choice. If you know...

Analysts are attributing part of this week's decline to unwinding of etf/etn positions

What do I think about it? I think it's pure evil. I think we should ban VIX futures and send all VIX traders to Siberia! I am pretty sure a lot of people got stopped out and that contributed to the vol being bid. This said, most of the selloff was non-vol driven, we even had moments when both...

    Fully automated futures trading

Yeah, you can make it arbitrarily complex depending on how anal you are. In a lot of smaller index futures, there are various specific captive flows or product details. Sometimes it's possible to find ways to make some money in a low-risk way, if you know where to look. The problem with these...

It's over. Historical bull run has come to an end.

There are some interesting historical paper reconstructing stuff like GDP or interest rates from the medieval times. Pretty sure I saw one showing that long-term performance of the stock baskets too.

    ES calendar spreads

It's due to the difference between the interest rate and the dividends. The interest rate is pretty low (thank you Fed), while the dividend yield for the next 3 month is higher. So by being long Jun futures and short the basket you are foregoing a lot of dividends and receiving very little...

What defines a "Professional" trader (vs Non-Professional/Amateur)?

It’s like asking what defines a “professional sex worker”. If you are one, you usually know.

Carry is different for different futures, right? For bond futures, you can get the "spot futures price" by using the CTD bond and it's conversion factor. The difference between the futures price and this "implied spot" scaled by time to expiration is your carry (a.k.a. implied repo).

    Innovator S&P 500 Power Buffer ETF™ – March

Cute. It's a 1 year ITM call spread, so nothing exotic. People who have enough attention to detail might find cute ways of making money off this product in a low-risk fashion. PS. But thank you for posting it, I am very interested in these cute-idea ETFs

Are cryptocurrencies SERIOUSLY undervalued? ENTER ALL CRYPTO MARKETS

No it did not. Here you go: Monday to Friday return for SPYs was -11.83%; weekly 1y standard deviation for SPY was 1.70%, so it was a -6.9SD move down (a.k.a. shit fuck Jesus) Monday to Friday return for GLD was -4.17%; it's weekly 1y weekly vol is 1.65% and thus GLD was down -2.5 SD (a.k.a...

Coronavirus Fatality Rate or Death Percentage: The Most Accurate Estimate

While it is true, it's an invalid statistical approach. You want to see what percentage of symptomatic cases had ended up in what state, i.e. "case hospitalization rate", "case fatality rate" etc.

Coronavirus Fatality Rate or Death Percentage: The Most Accurate Estimate

Maybe before insulting others you should check the facts? Annual flu statistics are on the CDC web site and they look nothing like it. For example, median CFR for 65+ age group can be calculated about 0.8% for the last season: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html Age group...
