UBS 'Cautious' on Large Regional Banks (WFC a Sell)

October 7, 2009 6:12 PM EDT UBS has initiated coverage on the large regional banking sector today, slapping a Cautious rating on the group. The firm believes that these stocks "have run too fast" recently. Started at Neutral: KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY) M&T Bank (NYSE: MTB) Regions Financial...

will the mkt ever turn on the low ball ests game?

Well I feel like everyone is waiting on something to trigger a correction. It doesn't seem like it's just going to correct just because it's overbought. Something is going to have to trigger it, and I think it's got to be something that average people can wrap their heads around. Anything...

will the mkt ever turn on the low ball ests game?

I think you are right. If anything this points out that fundamentals are hard to trade on. No matter what they say, the market always wins. The flow of capital is so large through these equities that even the most highly capitalized trader would be crushed. You just have to go with the flow.

will the mkt ever turn on the low ball ests game?

It almost feels like light retail trading is moving this market, we are on low volume, many stocks trading below their daily volume averages, volatility seems weak, more and more flat days. I don't know. Also you have to remember it's all about how the information is spinned. Just look at...

will the mkt ever turn on the low ball ests game?

I read that the cost cutting that led Alcoa up was primarily from cutting around 20,000 jobs. Basically the cost cutting they are doing is not sustainable. Also their revenue was down. I don't follow Alcoa though, so I'm sure there are other factors. I usually don't watch Mad Money with...

    Alcoa earnings after the close

Worth it's own thread in discussion itself. Some said they were releasing some numbers tomorrow, don't know if that's true. Pepsi and Marriot tomorrow. Jobless claims as well.

Pro Traders refuse to talk about this--

I know it sounds silly but maybe it's because it adds a level of a "job" feel to it. Like you are a professional surgeon or construction worker working with dangerous things like nails and body parts, etc. You end up not only taking it more seriously like a real job but you are much more...

Banking Stocks: When will they be required to reveal bad assets not reflected?

If Goldman Sachs upgrades a stock and it does a huge write down and tanks is Goldman Sachs at fault for upgrading it? I think the case could be argued, how are they to know the extent or amount of write downs? If they knew, technically everyone should have the right to know. And if everyone...

Most losers in a row you have had?

I've realized something lately and that is it's actually easier to make money than it is to lose money in the market. Think about it. First off you are standing on the outside watching, you do your research you prepare. Then you put on the trade at the most favorable time (in your opinion)...

Banking Stocks: When will they be required to reveal bad assets not reflected?

I think that is the general sentiment some people seem to be having right now as bank stocks rally. However I've never seen a company's stock not take a hit after doing a write down. From my understanding, once it's officially on the books, it will then legally/contractually effect...

Most losers in a row you have had?

After 2 losses in a row I try to step back and assess what I'm doing wrong. I think a common problem I've had is I don't give my trades enough time to materialize. I trade options and I've grown to realize that this is more critical in comparison to stocks. You have to be willing to swing...

Banking Stocks: When will they be required to reveal bad assets not reflected?

I'm hearing a lot more lately about how they have grey assets, bad assets, that aren't reflected yet on their balance sheets. I've heard this in the past and I'm hearing it again now that banks are getting upgraded by Goldman Sachs. This press release came out today pointing out that it's...

The Most Sure-fire Hedge Fund Possible

Would make for a funny reality tv show. Maybe not a hedge fund but just a small group of traders each given a few grand.

What sets options traders apart from stock traders?

If you don't have a lot of capital, in my opinion you are far better off trading options to get the leverage you need as you learn to trade. Not only that but most successful stock traders aren't just trading stocks, they are doing a lot of trades per day. Often at least 2+ trades a day...

Wanted to take a poll to see what the general outlook is right now from the traders on here. :p

Thoughts on today? Thoughts on next week? October Crashing Coming?

Unemployment rate in the US 1910-1960, with the years of the Great Depression (1929-1939) highlighted. Well if you believe in charts, the crash of 1929 happened as unemployment headed toward 10% as well. According to the WSJ, the broader unemployment rate hit 17% in September...

Thoughts on today? Thoughts on next week? October Crashing Coming?

I don't know about 7800 DOW without some sort of very strong news factored in that would justify it. Could you post up your chart and how you are getting 7800 DOW?
