    Quadriga Blow Up

Two things. Dunn has been down as much as 50% at one point during it's 25+ year history. It's all a matter of how much volatility you want to eat. The aggressiveness of Quadriga's marketing + their fee structure scares me.

    Family Investment Office

Yes, often it is only one family. Take for instance Pritker here in Chicago -- this family has billions that it has to put to work. As such they have their own private equity arm. They buy, sell and operate businesses. Some families will just invest in other funds, some will do direct investing.

I can't code a simple system that works

Let me ask you this, can you code a system that works absolutely horribly -- consistently? If so, just flip your buys and your sells...(obviously it's not always this easy when you start considering order types etc.). I always love to find a consistent money loser -- that way I can consider...

    ISP for multiple PC offices

    If you're day-trading, I would agree. If you're swing trading -- it's a toss-up.

    ISP for multiple PC offices

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just switch over to cable? (also if you're daytraders, some more tech saavy than I can tell you about the drawback regarding latency and cable). I get 1.3 Mbps through my cable and like 300 through my DSL.

How can I track the 40-day historical vol. on a stock?

Or you could use excel. Just downlaod the prices from Yahoo and then create a column that is equal to (close today/close yesterday -1). Then do a stdev on the last 40 days of that number. Then multiply the stdev by sqrt(250). That will be your annualized historical vol over the last 40 days.

    Steven Cohen's trading results

On this whole topic of race/ethnicity and success -- Thomas Sowell (the economist) has written a book entitled "Migrations and Cultures" in which he outlines why some people groups have succeeded versus others -- I found it interesting.

    Steven Cohen's trading results

Actually, do you know what price he got in at on the WTSLA trade? He's holding converts and I'm not sure where they are trading. Doubt he's arbing them at this price, so he's probably just betting on the upside. Also you have to figure that it's one of a few plays he's doing. Certainly the...

    Steven Cohen's trading results

Ken Grant (who used to be the risk manager at SAC and has worked at 2 other large funds in addition to helping the CME come up with their SPAN margin calc method) in his book "Trading Risk" says that he has reviewed countless portfolios of successful traders and invariably 90% of the gains come...

I just became a CPO -- the people at the NFA are SUPER helpful, if you have any questions, you should definitely call them...the process is fairly painless.

Interesting point hefty. In college I remember one professor saying that someone had done studies on this. Yellow was supposed to spark imagination. Light blue evoked a soothing feeling. My walls are milk chocolate brown -- that' can't be too good -- but they do evoke warmth in the winter...

How to establish formal track record?

As far as what is acceptable for showing as a track record, a good standard would probably be the NFA's guidelines for CPO and CTA Disclosure Documents. This can be found on their website (www.nfa.futures.org) under Compliance > Issues for CPOs and CTAs > Disclosure Documents a Guide for CPOs...
