    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

I usually hold longer term ES positions for 30-40 points and all my trading friends think I'm nuts to hold for days rather than minutes. I admire B1S2's long term approach, I wish I could hold thru more of the ups and downs. When all other traders are going for smaller and smaller holding times...

    "Watch out for the Quants"

WTF, since when is 463 Dow points = to 7% ?

    Just for Fun: Quickest profit?

I'm curious how much is the biggest profit you've made in the shortest amount of time. This should be per contract not some gaudy number based on taking on a 100 contract position. I imagine scalpers have the edge here. Last Friday I went short the ES into the NFP data. In 08:30:00. Out...

    Interesting...it was up yesterday night.

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

How can that be, how can you get January results two thirds into the month? It used to be that investors in the fund received the results the first business day after the end of the month. If a -30% return was reported in a timely manner, what kind of negative return would result in this...

    Schindler Trading up 17% YTD

It's kinda odd no Jan numbers have been posted. My experience with Aaron is that he posts the numbers by the first of the month if the market is open that day. So we are three days late. Hopefully not a bad sign.

You're taking that pretty well man. I got short at 86.25. Lucky really...I had to dash out and probably would have screwed it up if I'd watched. Trying to figure out if we'll gap and crap into the open with jobs info or make a lower high. The fact that GOOG is down big and ES is flat has me...

Can anyone think why GOOG is down 8% AH yet the ES futures is flat?

Truly a no win situation. I know I want to be short but I also know they most likely will push it up into the close. Most likely I'll get barely stopped out and then have it tank 40 points if I get in now.

Me too, got in short at 4.25, got out at break even. Unbelievable strength. Looks like they want to take it up again. Can't figure out if this is a legit move or window dressing but I know if Apex is having just an ok day, my shitty day is alright :)

    Mac and MB Trading EFX

I use old MacBook but I'm not a high frequency trader - certainly not a scalper. I run IB TWS, Ensign Windows and Button Trader on Vista with Boot camp. Most of the time my processor runs around 25% spiking up to 50-60%. I don't have any performance issues but perhaps if I traded 10X a day I...

Its a lot easier to walk away when I have one contract on, probably couldn't if I had 10. Thanks for the fill info, I find the time and sales info to be pretty uninformative. MIT order sound good, though perhaps I'll do a LIT with two tick leeway. Trade is definitely working out nicely. I...

We seem to have a similar approach, though you seem quite a few steps ahead of me. I'm still refining how big my stops should be (taking volatility into account). All my buddies give me hell because I trade so differently to them. I usually only put on 1-2 trades on a day (if that) and...

I wanted to do the same, actually 11.50 but pulled my order. 4 tick spread at the time. Too much potential slippage for my taste. Strange since we've got decent volume and on Sunday last week we had tight spreads. Perhaps I'm just finding reasons to not take the trade. :D

Ninja Trader - order/stop loss question

Yeah, it seems like it'd be pretty easy for IB to have a warning come up if you enter a "dumb" order like I did. It tells me when a stop loss amount is larger than my default, why can't it tell me when my stop and limit buys on a short would lead to immediate fills when the parent order was...

Anyone use Ninja Trader for swing trading?

Hey Reaver, I'm not using NT for live trading but was trying the demo out. I feel the same way. Really like the performance Analysis but worried about the way it sends orders. I checked out a bunch of front ends and I believe that Button trader is the only one that has the option to presend...

Ninja Trader - order/stop loss question

Just want to note that I tried out Button Trader and they offer presending of child orders in bracket order. My god, there is a lot to that program! If you can't be a good scalper with BT...I don't know.

Ninja Trader - order/stop loss question

Thanks MandelbrotSet, Very helpful. I'm the other end of the spectrum to a scalper! :) Funny how different personalities fit different time frames. I stay the freshest when I only trade when I feel compelled to...certainly not daily. I think its just this week that exhausted me. I found it...

Ninja Trader - order/stop loss question

Thanks, I just did. They replied very fast. Unfortunately it won't work since Ninja Trader holds the OCO orders locally until the parent order is filled. Here's the link in case anyone else wonders: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5217 Pity, since I know Bracket...

Ninja Trader - order/stop loss question

Thanks for the response. I'd be using it mostly for 1-2 day trades mostly but 30% of my trades are put on when they fill when I sleep. Unfortunately, I've been getting very little sleep lately and I made a mental error on the ES last night....$600 loss when I should have had a $1400 gain :(...
