    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

I don't follow this thread religiously so I must have missed your other entries. Thanks for filling me in. I have a similar approach...I'm a swing trader (though I will hold up to 1-3 months if I really like the position) and rely mostly on daily charts as well. I also compare reaction to news...

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

I can't remember you ever posting a trade on this journal Old Trader....or is my memory just bad? I'm curious, if you don't mind, what time frame trader are you? Swing or position? And what kind of frequency. Make numerous daily trades or go days between trades? I understand if you don't...

Top 5 financial websites and/or magazine

I use www.barchart.com for quotes and charts when I'm not logged into my broker. I read the Economist and the WSJ, that's about it. Most financial media is crap. Better to read the tried and true books. I don't know anybody who makes money trading other people's views (maybe against those views).

How much money did you lose, before at least becoming a breakeven trader?

I don't know how useful this question is since it depends on your net worth. If someone makes 50 bucks a day that sounds like shit but if there account is $1000, that aint bad. Someone else might make $4000 but with a multi million dollar account. It might be more interesting if you asked how...

How often do the currencies move this fast?

I just think that if there was a substantial amount of shorting (I'm sure there is SOME shorting ) on this decline we would have bounced at least ONCE on some sharp short covering rallies. Who knows...I was looking to buy in the hope of a bounce but I see zero signs that there will be one. I...

How often do the currencies move this fast?

What's amazing to me is that there are NO bounces during the last two weeks or so. And the same huge relentless moves are happening in crude, grains, metals etc etc. Not that it matters to trading successfully but I just don't "get it" USD was basing for the last 3+months yet NONE of these...

How to use Ideal / Ideal Pro in IB?

Thanks for stepping in....I apologize for the incorrect info ! On the page I quoted it said IDEAL should be used for conversions NOT trading. I understood that to mean it was the one to use for conversions. Perhaps better wording by IB would have been IDEAL should only be used for conversion...

How to use Ideal / Ideal Pro in IB?

The difference is that it creates a margin loan which you pay interest on when you do it thru IDEAL PRO. Read this....it says at the beginning to use IDEAL for conversions and IDEAL PRO for trading...

How to use Ideal / Ideal Pro in IB?

You are supposed to use regular IDEAL for cash conversions....IDEAL PRO is only for forex trading. Also, wait a couple of days after you do the trade for the money to settle. I mistakenly thought ideal didn't need to clear and got charged a fee.

Why does no one here give detailed trading advice?

Um, after a while I get tired of fucking the same girl so I don't mind if someone else has a go. Conversely, I never get tired of making money so I won't be giving that up so easily. 85% of guys can "get a chick" Maybe 5% can make money trading.

    Non TN Monitor Recs?

Thanks for all the great advice guys ! I'm leaning heavily towards a S-IPS screen and thinking that I should just spend the extra 300 bucks and get a good one. Especially since I trade futures and one trade is about a 300 buck loss :) It seems that the non-TN screens are almost completely...

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

Totally agree. Most people start out trying to hit homeruns every chance. It would be better to spend a couple of years just trying not to lose any money. What was that quote in the Link book? PPC - Preserve Precious Capital

    Non TN Monitor Recs?

Did a search but didn't find much on this area. I want to get a non-tn monitor for my main trading screen. I have Samsung 226 but the thing bugs my eyes and it does something funny to some of the colors I use in my candlesticks when I move my head side to side. Does anyone have any experience...

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

Two things I admire at you b1s2. 1. You are able to not get tremendously emotionally wrapped up in getting stopped within a few ticks of a reversal. That would kick most trader's ass. 2. You take a trade with an entry WAY above where you were stopped out. I am usually unable to buy higher...

Oh my god, this is so f-ing boring. Just like the second half of Friday. Reminds me of 2005-06...no volatility.

Why just there are NOT many female traders?

Most women's emotional state changes every millisecond, most guys maybe hourly. Can you imagine trying to trade when how you were feeling about the trade changed ALL the time? Unless a woman is very emotional disciplined or self-aware, she has a disadvantage to most guys.

Why do you care so much about having an "edge?

LOL, I know quite a few traders who enter a trade that literally allows them to scoop up 100s and, due to their mental hangups, end up getting out with a tiny profit or even a loss because they don't have the mental discipline to actually stick with said trading edge.

Why do you care so much about having an "edge?

Good points Jon, Most people would rather focus on improving easily quantifiable elements of their strategy or money management rather than delving into their messy psychological hangups. I can think of a lot of traders who try different time frames, indicators, P/L multiples etc etc. Can't...

    My First Journal

I'd focus on AVERAGING 8-10 points a day not getting them everyday. A lot of newbies want to make money day in, day out.....you can't. When they have a down day it kills them and they put a lot of pressure on themselves to pay back the market. Heck, try having a monthly profit target. I think...
