Printing dollars writing covered calls only to buy them back cheaper.

Selling short 'synthetically' also limits your risk (if it's a naked short) and keeps your resources free as you won't need to deposit more margin and pay the huge interest rate brokers charge for short positions.

Printing dollars writing covered calls only to buy them back cheaper.

One disadvantage is the amount of time it may take to get filled in the options market. If you're arbing the stock in any way, you may have some slippage. This has been a problem with single stock futures (SSF) as well due to the lack of liquidity. Also, keep in mind, if you're doing...

Printing dollars writing covered calls only to buy them back cheaper.

I agree with nazz...I think this lock on shorting is going to draw alot more attention to SSF as offered at One Chicago. SSF are much more popular in Europe than here in the US. Brokers have not pointed their customers towards SSF as means of shorting a stock because the brokerages make huge...

    MIT orders on TT

You may want to try asking this in their forum. http://forums.tradingtechnologies.com/ I don't think XT supports MIT orders at all anymore, but I'm pretty sure they have a plug-in called TOES that will hold a MIT or LIT order on your system

    eurodollar futures

Don't know. I choked out yesterday afternoon but that's a wicked move in the spread...-40 is unreal. Perhaps bankers at LEH etc were long a whole bunch of GEZ8 and had to bail out today? The whole GE curve is whacked man. I won't touch these right now. GEZ8 -33, GEZ9 +11, GEZ10, +1.5

Not me. I got hammered in my long GEZ8/GEZ9. Made some in the short 6CZ8/6AZ8. I'm going to add some risk reversals in ES / and NQ today. Sell some ATM puts and buy OTM calls with the premium generated.

Anyone daytrade or swingtrade ES options?

I've swing traded options on ES and there's great money to be made there. I've sued the same strategies for 15 years with little change (well, it's a small contract and electronic...but strategy stays the same). As mentioned earlier in the thread, volatility is your friend and volatile...

I've taken partial profit on short can/aus. 1300 looks like it may hold and if we don't get though soon, i'll cover the rest. I'm looking for a place to buy geh9/gez9 and missed buying at 47.5.

One of the reasons I like the upside of GEZ8/GEZ9 is the Fed Funds curve. ZQZ9 did not trade today, but look at ZQX8/ZQX9. It's trading at 69.5 and rallied 13 ticks today.

    eurodollar futures

I'm still short canaussie....open p/l on this is offsetting my miserable long GEZ8/GEZ9 position. I'm not bailing on that unless we close below 30. I'm shooting for 1068 on short canaussie after shoring yesterday at 1384.

    Anyone, help with this?

The futures market can and will lead the cash market.

snow- the spread contract is a contract itself. 12.50 per tick, just like the futures. The link below gives the full contract specs for GE spreads. http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/interest-rates/files/eurodollar-cso-specs.pdf

Eurospreads are cheap to put on but that can get you in trouble. I keep adding to my long Dec8/Dec9 and am getting hammered. Don't let the cheap margin fool ya  I still think this will get back up to 90, but I may have to pick up some puts for protection...

I was looking at dec8/may9 and stayed out. i like the trade for the same reason i'm leery of buying near meats vs. deferred meats (although they are way the hell out of whack). It looks like the meats have priced in higher feed prices down the road while the feed (corn) hasn't priced it in yet.
