    Daytrading for starters

Actually, I was referring to an index tracking the number of new traders as a contrarian signal, not an index of articles.

    Zero Sum Game???

Even the futures markets aren't necessarily a 0 sum game as a lot of the participants are using it as a way to hedge the physical ownership/purchase of the commodities, such as a farmer who shorts corn to hedge his crop. Even if corn skyrockets and the farmer takes a huge loss on his contracts...

    holding a price

Reserve order. Most ECNs will allow you to set a maximum displayed size (100 in this case), regardless of how big the actual order is (~100,000) in this case. It was just someone that had a big block to uload and sold into a strong uptrend to get a decent price for it. The MM simply realized...

    TriMark/NITE cheats me again!

They screwed me last week on a stop order. I had a sell stop market at .27, bid drops to .26 which should have triggered the stop, but nothing prints for a full 60 seconds, when someone else's 1300 shares go through at .26. A full 2 minutes and 25 seconds after the stop triggers, I finally get...

IB TWS w/QT, yer basic dummy here has 12 questions

It means that you can make one more daytrade without triggering PDT. Note that you can make no more than 3 daytrades in a 5 BUSINESS DAY PERIOD, not a week. So if you make 3 daytrades on Friday the 1st, you have to sit out until Friday the 8th, NOT Monday the 4th. If somewhere between the...

    Wash Sales

It keeps you from selling the stock at a loss to get the tax writeoff and then buying it right back to keep your position effectively the same.

    Finding your order on T&S

Like most broker's quote feeds, IB lumps prints of identical prices together when the quote rate exceeds a certain threshold. So, in a slow market you will probably see your individual print, but in a faster one it may get lumped together with other prints at the same price.

    PDT question

Thanks Ambush, but I had already found that and was looking for something that specifically addressed the single opening / multiple closing issue. I was hoping to find a copy of the rule I could send to IB customer support, but I guess IB's interpretation is what really matters and not the...

    PDT question

No, I got back from a week's vacation and when I checked my "day trades remaining", it was at 0. Emailed IB and they replied that I was flagged PDT and locked out for 90 days. I checked back over my trades and found that the only way they could have come up with 4 day trades was to count the 1...

    PDT question

Thanks. Do you happen to have a link to the rule? IB just locked my account for 90 days and searching the NASD web site is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

    PDT question

If a single opening trade is offset by 2 closing trades (ie. buy 200, sell 100, sell 100), assuming they all occur on the same day, does this count as 1 day trade, or 2?

FreeTrade's Order Execution... am I paranoid? ("Invisible" Fees)

DID they fill you at .05 when you could have gotten .04, or are you afraid they MIGHT fill you a penny or 2 over. I had the same concerns, but over the course of a couple thousand trades, I've never seen it happen. Get level 2 (they only charge $5 for it) and watch what happens to your order...

FreeTrade's Order Execution... am I paranoid? ("Invisible" Fees)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: as long as I get filled quickly at the inside I couldn't care less who takes the other side of my trade, NITE, Saddam Hussein, or anyone else. I almost always get filled in 1-2 seconds, not quite as fast as IB, but not far behind, either.

Any way to see orders in TWS

    1. I like QT - it's what I was using long before I opened an IB account and what I am used to. 2. I find TWS very cumbersome to use and make more order entry errors with it rather than QT. 3. No charts in TWS. I would just use QT for everything, but it doesn't do OCA orders.

Any way to see orders in TWS

Today I shorted NSC at 20.70 through quotetracker. After the execution went through, I went to TWS and did an OCA stop/limit bracket. When I went back to QT, the limit portion had already been executed, even though the price I put, or at least thought I put, was way below the market. The stop...

    freetrade.com

I've been using them now for about 9 or 10 months and couldn't be happier. With the exception of the first 15 minutes or so after the open, I always get filled in a couple of seconds at the inside.
