DUNN Capital Up +55% for 08

Agreed. I have part of my portfolio invested in trend following strategy. It takes a fair amount of risk (although stand alone quite acceptable and as part of 6 strategies very much so). The trend following portfolio is up 56% ytd. And it's nothing smart either, just plain LT trend following...

DUNN Capital Up +55% for 08

Compared to the track record of my fellow countrymen at TransTrend he looks like a wild cowboy with less respect for risk and less return to boot.

DUNN Capital Up +55% for 08

Ehm, his composite YTD return would be around 37% quickly estimated. Making 37% after losing 38% the previous five years still leaves you 15% in the hole. Not to mention the opportunity loss. With all respect, making 3% per annum in the 1998-2007 period doesn't exactly make you a star...

DUNN Capital Up +55% for 08

Dunn Composite five years of negative performance in a row (2003-2007). Amazing they still have almost $300mln in AUM.

Commodities Broker: Interest on Cash Collateral

I have more than that in my account but MFGlobal wouldn't pay interest. Not that I'd trust them with my money any more after their grain stunt.

Commodities Broker: Interest on Cash Collateral

one of the reasons i'm switching from MFGlobal to IB. my base currency is euro's and I don't want to buy T-bills and then hedge to euro's with all the hassle involved.

What happens with physical delivery when you are short a futures contract and it ...

That's what I thought too. However I forgot to close out my long soymeal contracts last december and my broker MFGlobal stuck me with physical soymeal. Which incidentally I sold at a profit ;) Better watch out.

Which regulation forbides mutual funds from selling to stay in cash?

Yeah, I think they must have updated those regulations (i'm definitely not an expert on US regulations) as I read http://mutualfunds.about.com/cs/hedgefunds/l/blhedgefunds.htm

Which regulation forbides mutual funds from selling to stay in cash?

i don't think they have to be fully invested by law. however, they may have to be if that's in their stated investment policy. i'm sure there are balanced fund out there that switch from equities to cash/t-bills and vice versa.

Which regulation forbides mutual funds from selling to stay in cash?

Mutual funds are regulated by the Investment Company Act of 1940 which states that: SEC. 12. ø80a–12¿ (a) It shall be unlawful for any registered investment company, in contravention of such rules and regulations or orders as the Commission may prescribe as necessary or appropriate in...

How much space do you use. What are the costs?

dunno about where you live, but if i'd have to rent a small office i'd pay more than 25k per annum. also in the context of 500k-1m trading profits a 25k cost for offices doesn't look unreasonable. hell, you'd pay that amount for a single bloomberg terminal. oh, btw. i use about 80...

    How to define a trend 100 % objectively ?

The first condition is met when the price is higher than the price of 200 days ago and cannot be determined be using the 100day MA alone, and the latter isn't exactly correct either.

The Implications Of Schindler and VN

I never stated that competition will have no effect on profitability. Of course returns from crowded strategies will degrade. However, not to the point of zero profits. And I think they follow a fairly unpredictable cycle of high and low profitability. Same goes for economic theory. As you...

The Implications Of Schindler and VN

Just checked recently, but the TA trading systems I researched for my graduation thesis 10 years ago still produce the same results. Regarding your basic economic theory... you have to realise economic theory is just that.. theory, which doesn't quite work in the real world. As to...

The Implications Of Schindler and VN

It means it's quite possible to beat the market in terms of risk/reward, but not possible to make 100% per annum over a sustainable periode without blowing up in the process.
