You might consider selling calls far above the market price and use that premium to buy puts. It limits the upside but gives some protection on a move down.

I am confused. It is RAI, and you are correct that there is not much liquidity. Thanks for the info and will look at it again.

Just to chime in, I found a pretty good webinar on synthetics at chartbender.com. The second one goes into details of adjustments such as the collar, box, etc. http://www.chartbender.com/products/education.aspx

Thanks. My experience is mostly futures, so a newbie question: how does x-div date in Sep affect a short Oct straddle? I was watching for earnings but don't know how the dividend affects options.

Looking at NEM for 52.5 oct/dec calendar and RAI for double diag, oct 65 straddle and jan one strike away.

Not better, just different. The sag in a double diag falls in the middle -- you like movement towards your shorts. In the IC, you want the market to stay away fr your shorts. I found myself losing sleep over my IC as the market makes a move. Just a personal preference. If you are making...

Placed on 9/1: IWM sep5/sep 70/71 put @20 diagonal QQQQ sep/oct 39 put @ 40 (could not fill at 35) calendar. Currently have SP sep/oct 1260/1240 put diag. still at breakeven, despite drop in vix and market moving up. The IWM sep quarterly was an error, but still looks good.

I was talking to myself and anyone else who gets frustrated when they get stopped out of a position and then see it go back in their direction. Optioncoach obviously needs no advice from me. I console myself with the thought: If I follow a sound trading plan and exit rules, in the long...

    1. Did you follow your trading plan? 2. If so, do you want to change your trading plan for such situations? Sounds to me that you are upset with yourself because you cannot guess market reversals.

Uh, yeah. Let's let GOVERNMENT control the price of oil. That should fix everything -- those nasty, nasty speculators are ruining this county. We will have fifty cent gas. hahahahahahaha

Still holding onto my sep/oct 1260/1240 put -- little change in premium up or down. The other three positions were closed out yesterday at a total of 25 cent loss. As part of my trading plan, I am reducing my position size by 50%.

Bought 10 XLE sep/oct 56/57 put diagonal @40. I have a rule to open an order 5 cents below mark, and it worked well this time.
