Personally - the only way I would have caught that is with a runner from an earlier short. I was flat at the time and waiting for market to signal long .... took it at 20.25 but I'm flat now.

...spike it short before they spike it long... just usual stop running/trapping. I didn't figure they'd drop it so low... but then again if the spikes are not impressive enough they don't do their job.

We agree ... I think a run above 38 will have a fairly short lifespan but will be impressive enough to make shorts fold and trap some bulls. In other words one of those spikes that the ES loves so dearly. I think we test 1200 from above once that plays out... but DEFINITELY take that call...

IMO the break out is up and we see 1350 in the next couple days... market has been churning under 1338 for 8ish days. That's a lot of buy stops from the top callers... that spike today cleared out a bunch of the longs who will be more than ready to jump back in if it starts to run up...

During the dull times (of which there are many throughout the day) I noticed that if you see 666 or 1666 persistently on the inside bid the thing will take off up shortly thereafter. Now... I am the first to admit that it is easy to imagine stuff like that :D (i.e. I don't trade off of it)

I've been trading the ES for many years and as Volente says... the volatility comes and goes. That said... lately I have been toying with the concept that the various rallies in commodities are "the crash" many of us are expecting -- and the ES will just slow grind up for years to come...

Consider that there are two numbers ... actual rapes and prosecuted rapes with a conviction. (you could also niggle about legal definitions of the word.. sometimes consensual sex is considered rape) In the US the two numbers are much closer than in Africa and elsewhere.

Hopefully NFA will use all of those pennies to oppose any proposed financial transaction taxes :p

Yup. stealth taxation underway... but unlike a tax which only applies to future earnings inflation taxes what you already have as well.
