Inherent weakness of the Sharpe Ratio

As you probably know, the Sharpe Ratio is a measure of risk for a given investment. The higher the ratio, theoretically, the lower the risk. The Sharpe Ratio has a huge flaw. If you have an exceptionally good month or two - relative to previous months - because volatility has gone through the...

Daytraders: Do you use Profit and Loss Limits for the Day?

I don't ever think you should use a Max Profit but using a Max Loss is a good idea. When you are trading well you should trade as large as comfortably possible and go for the kill. Markets change and your system won't work as well in the next market. Don't limit profits unless you...

A long-term view of the market. Target 400?

Technical Analysis suggests now is a time to buy. We're at a major support level established back in 2002 but it's fair to argue we could work off all the gains that were made from the debt bubble, with a target of somewhere between 400-500.

I LOVE America but America is DONE. no doubt anymore

apak ain't long no Oil. He doesn't even know what the tick size is. Margin req's? Price per point? If he were actually long this slippery stuff he'd have to have a massive sized account to be long at 56 and stop at 29.

Old Fart? What makes you think I'm old dude? apak, you are a hoot. And yes, the Vette does have a HUGE engine. It's an absolute masterpiece. Obviously you've never driven one. Put the pedal to the metal and you're likely to have one hell of an orgasm :D

    Could buffet blow up?

Buffett hasn't lost anything on GS. He is getting 10% guaranteed on a 5B investment with warrants that last 5 years to buy GS at 115. Warrants are just like options. The buyer has the right but not the obligation to buy the stock at 115 anytime within that 5 year period, assuming they are...

    I blew out my account

Alright snowhite, you are in good company here. I've never blow up a futures account but I've blown up plenty of stock accounts. When I first got started I'd wire in 5k blow it up, wire in another 5k and blew that up. Each time I did that I felt like I just wanted to grab the 9mm. I gave up...

    shocking IB Wire incident

I have an account with IB and I've never had even one issue with them. Even their customer service was alright but I am aware of how poor it is. As a side note, I don't know why anyone would want to trade futures with them. Their intra-day margin requirements are ridiculous.

    $100,000. 00 for a system, if you don't got $, don't bother

apak, "I hate calls on ET, haven't done it in years. But OIL is at Bottom" That's odd. Did you not just register in Nov 2008? So you've been trying to get this right for years, still breaking even, and selling a system for 100k...

    $100,000. 00 for a system, if you don't got $, don't bother

"I am sorry to sound so negative in my post but I do know to cut losers quickly, I do know to stay within current volatility and adjust as well as position size, I do know that I am supposed to let winners run. I can't grasp it, my best strategy breaks even. I know I am close but losing...

    $100,000. 00 for a system, if you don't got $, don't bother

And before this long he bought it at something like $87 but there's no mention of that trade unless THAT stop is also at $29. I doubt apak even knows what the leverage of the oil market is.
