    Options Trading Platform

I use optionsxpress. When I first started it was very basic, but now they have added a lot of extra features. About the only thing they don't have that I would like are volatility skews and maybe some more advanced charting.

    Daytrading profit potential

many studies have been done to try and determine what traits make a person a bad trader. One of the most common traits is that they deny or denigrate history. "these time are different". The markets are bigger , more securities, more total money, more players, more efficient mechanics (...

    RISK and futures

personally i think options can be a great happy medium. More leverage than stocks but with limited risk ( you can only lose your premium if you are long ). If you are long a future and it gaps past your stop ,your loss will be greater than you anticipated.

"The desire for constant action irrespective of underlying conditions is responsible for many losses on Wall Street even among the professionals, who feel that they must take home some money every day, as though they were working for regualr wages." -- Jesse Livermore All you customers out...

    Daytrading profit potential

"There is the plain fool, who does the wrong thing at all times everywhere, but there is the Wall Street fool, who thinks he must trade all the time. No man can always have adequate reasons for buying and selling stocks daily - or sufficient knowledge to make his play an intelligent play." --...

Warren Buffet expects US to be nuked.

well, i was speaking of re-insurance, or insuring the other insurance companies. If every p&c policy out there excludes big attacks like that, then there might not be a problem, but i doubt that is the case. In any case, fear makes people more willing to pay higher insurance premiums...

    Any thoughts on this article?

taleb says the same thing. He makes bets based upon the past just like everybody else, but he doesn't increase or decrease his position size based upon how confident he is in the trade. Niederhoffer always did, and it killed him. Actually, the first time he blew up, he actually blew up twice...

Warren Buffet expects US to be nuked.

he doesn't just own insurance company stocks, he owns the biggest reinsurance company in the U.S. and he needs to raise the premiums.

ATTN: All professional/prop firm owners and managers.

you will not be getting a job, you will be becoming a customer, unless your credentials and connections are so good that you could land at , for example, goldman. If you can do that you don't need any internet message boards. If that is not the case, then you should just get a job, imho.

    DOW Crashing ?!

somebody earlier was talking about the dow not being as significant as the s&p. He has a point , but there is also the fact that the Dow stocks are all heavily weighted components of the OEX and the 500. Also, the dow has been stronger than the rest of the market so far this year. If the dow...

How to start a hedge fund?

I probably shouldn't have used the word "registered" since you don't have to do the same registration as a mutual fund or a broker dealer.

"dotfutures, I wonder what your agenda is. Every one of your nine posts has had something negative to say. Stating that daytrading is purely a matter of luck with such authority, a statement that is so far removed from the truth it's not funny, one can only assume you're a total idiot...

How to start a hedge fund?

if you want to do it in the U.S. you will have to be fully registered with the SEC. But.....about that 100% a year...... Seriously, it ain't gonna happen. "just knowing" it will happen won't make it happen. No amount of technical analysis will make it happen. It is wishfull thinking...

    Daytrading profit potential

I went to your web site and read the bio's of your founders. You all seem like a bunch of guys who were big options players and completely understand the math behind how the markets work. Do you employ people who want to do low volume high percentage strategies like credit spreads, or is it all...

    Any thoughts on this article?

In the markets the so called "rare" events happen a lot more often than in real life. The probability distribution has "fat tails" which means that it really isn't a true normal distribution as in real life. Pretending that rare events can't happen is just living in denial. I have respect for...
