trading from home and real time news

www.triggernews.com has a free trial and a low monthly fee. You may want to check it out. I tried it and ultimately decided not to go with them. However, you may feel differently. Also, a lot of people use Google news alerts, although they may not be as fast as you need. Hope this helps.

    What's Wrong with Me?

This thread is great, there is some very good advice here. Someone should make a 365-day calendar with some of this stuff. Thanks for the responses.

    What's Wrong with Me?

Could it be possible that the market makers are pushing it way lower just to get everyone out so they can then push it back up and make a killing? Thanks

    What's Wrong with Me?

Let's say I buy a stock at $11, which my analysis shows should go to $13 in about two weeks. Instead, it drops down to $9 about two days later. I am disappointed and want to get out, but do not want to take a $2 loss, so I hold on to it, hoping for a rebound. A week later, it goes back up...

    dc area

If anyone in the DC area is interested exchanging ideas in a group setting, PM me. In the PM, let me know: 1. Where you live. Not necessarily the address, but the specific area. 2. Where you would like to meet, i.e. your house, someone else's house, a bar, etc. I personally am...

Problem with Loging in to my IB account at work

That sucks. Maybe you can sign up for the service at home and use it through work. Their servers are paid1.http-tunnel.com, paid2.http-tunnel.com, etc. If they only block www.http-tunnel.com and not paid1.http-tunnel.com, that should work. If they block the whole http-tunnel.com domain, it...

Problem with Loging in to my IB account at work

You can also route the IB traffic though port 80 to a company called www.http-tunnel.com which will then route it to IB on the correct port. It costs $5 a month will allow users to bypass firewalls since they are using port 80. Good luck.

Is this proverb true: Tell me what music you listen to, I will tell you who you are

He is a classical composer in the field of 'minimalism'. I ask if people here like him because his music tends to go in cycles, kind of like the markets. Everyone who has heard him tends to love him or hate him, no one thinks he is just OK. I suggest doing a web search or going to Amazon...

    automatic trading with IB TWS

Ultimately, you may want a secondary feed with historical data. DTN IQFeed offers an API for this for a yearly and monthly fee. If you are trying to cut costs by using IB's feed, I think your answer depends on how far back you need to go. If you only need the current day's data, why not...

    NASDAQ Trader Manual

All, There is a copy of this document at: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/trader/tradingservices/marketwatch/tradermanual/tradermanual.stm However, much of it has not been updated since early 2001. Does anyone know if there is a newer version out there? My thought is that learning this...

    3 HardDrives!!!!!

Can you just get a USB or Firewire Hard Drive? Also, they make external cases that allow you to attach a normal hard drive to the case and then plug it in via USB or firewire. Are either of these options in your situation? Firewire (IEEE 1394) is extremely fast...

    Hidden Orders

Thanks. Question: Will this only work on either an illiquid stock or after-hours? I would imagine this would be very difficult on a high-volume stock intra-day. Thanks

    Hidden Orders

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. However, it is disappointing in a way because it brings down the usefullness of Level II even more....

    Hidden Orders

This will probably show my ignorance of how orders are actually excuted, but at the risk of being flamed: If your order is hidden, how can it get executed? Who has the power to 'see' your order and actually place the trade with you? Thanks

    vacation..

All Mutual Fund companies that I know have several fund managers that they employ. When one needs some time off, the others will generally cover. Maybe you can work a deal with another fund manager that will do the same with you. Good luck.
