    SRS, shorts capitulating...

A little longer than 6 months. Fundamentals matter eventually. Yes I have taken a hit on SRS once already this year and surprisingly I am back for some more pain here. Don't try this at home :)

Ominous Sign: Fed Tax Revenue Set To Plunge Most Since Midst of Great Depression

Not for the politicians who want to create ever bigger bureaucratic fiefdoms for themselves, and not for the lobbyists who rely on the lack of transparency in the tax code to pad their pockets and those of their special interest clients :)

    Suspend "Cash for Clunkers"?

For a moment there I thought that you were describing what the future of healthcare was going to look like. Then I remembered that the gov will be spending trillions on that little project, so hopefully we will at least get a working web site out of that initiative.

When auto sales jump dont take it as a positive...

I wonder if there are any length of ownership requirements for these clunkers? Is there anything that would stop someone from buying a POS car for a few hundred bucks and then going in to a dealership with essentially a $4500 discount coupon courtesy of the few of us left that still pay taxes...

http://bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=aBmBls_HJ15E With corporate defaults at a six-year high, so-called debtor-in-possession financings dropped to about 23 percent of businesses failing to make debt payments so far this year, the lowest since at least 2003, according to a...

Potential game changer reversal of FASB Mark to Market policy...

Looks like nothing will happen until the Fall but are you sure that it will be a positive for net income. The way I read the following is that if an entity has an instrument like a derivative that loses value between reports (for example going from mark to model to this fair market value they...

Potential game changer reversal of FASB Mark to Market policy...

This could be a game changer, though I am not sure if the Fed or FDIC can exempt banks holding cos from this rule if implemented, like the Fed did for GS when it became a bank holding co. (in name only). http://business.theatlantic.com/2009/07/mark-to-market_is_back_--_with_a_vengeance.php

The real scoop on GS from a former MD...

By Nomi Prins, via Mother Jones July 28, 2009 -- This is perhaps the most important thing I learned over my years working on Wall Street, including as a managing director at Goldman Sachs: Numbers lie. In a normal time, the fact that the numbers generated by the nation's biggest banks can't...

How would you fix the health care problem in the US?

Agree completely. The current options reported are terrible and going in exactly the opposite direction. Rather than the private insurers having to compete with a public option (impossible as the public option is subsidized and rations care) the patients should have control of their care...
