here is why India can't catch up China... and why China can't catch up US

Now, you can ask the same question in US. Can it innovate and create value and productivity going forward? US doesn't have the best system, but it is 1st in relative terms for now. Education system -- Grad 12 and below not good. Excellent in universities and that is all it matters since...

here is why India can't catch up China... and why China can't catch up US

One thing that is very important and very hard to do is innovation. It is easy to march million of people to build infrastructure and such, but it takes happy people to innovate. China motivate people to innovate by capitalism and nationalism, but depends on how China does it. It can or...

The New Soviet Union - Surprise, Surprise...

I have to agree with that. Before BRIC gets too strong, we need to clean up our balance sheet and make ourselves more competitive. The capital per income gap is big between US and BRIC and there is no fundamental reason why the gap won't be closed in the future.

Naked short sell FNM and FRE: help ???

Here is the problem. If FNM and FRE is too big to fail, either 1) Nationalized them. 2) Replace them with more public housing. 3) Or Break them up into individual little piece that are small enough to fail. As of right now, there is no such thing as all upside and no downside. This...

The US Government, Capitalism or Socialism ?

Yupe, hell will freeze over before US will even come close to that. Too much entitlement programs. In Hong Kong, you can't walk away from your mortgage. You bet on housing. If you lose, you eat the lost. None of this, oh no, I don't understand I could be in this much trouble. *cry*...

    American Manufacturing

That's not going to work..:) Those are secondary industries. They made money off local people. Without anyone getting foreign currency, sooner or later you can't get any foreign product or service.

Someone bought 5000 LEH 10 puts for 1.45.

Don't know what you mean by buy some vol and short the stock. That fact that there are 4000 open interest @ 10 and 8000 @ 20 indicate someone is betting long IV and short stock as of today. I don't have open interest history. So, I don't know whether today interests increase or drop.

    successful traders?

Exactly, if most people here are confident about generating return 20% year after year, the topic flooding this site will be how can I borrow money the cheapest way to leverage up..:) In fact, this is the main problem for private equity. Anyway, it is very well possible that I don't know...

    successful traders?

I am talking about year after year for 10 years. There are guys in P&L that can do that but not that many. Also, not counting small accounts..:) If your track record as a mutual fund manager is 20% year after year for ten years, you got to be prized target for headhunter. If tons of...

    successful traders?

Think about it. He or she will break even trading full time if he or she can generate enough return to cover inflation + his normal 9-5 full time salary. That means your starting capital has to be around ~6x of your annual income provided you can generate 20% return year after year. ~14x if...

what type for strategy is best to use to profit on volatility?

what type for strategy is best to use to profit on volatility?

How about this. Pure non-directional trade and short V. Buy June puts and calls and sell July puts and calls. Same strike price. ( Assume news come out before June 21 ) If news come out and stock doesn't move, it likely won't move in July neither. You keep the premium difference...

End NASA, silly Mars stuff and all US space programs = Solves US Economy problems

There are lots of basic science coming out of NASA. All the details that you can look at on Mars can apply to Earth also. Sooner or later, whoever control the orbit will have a great military advantage because at some point, submarine will not be invisible anymore. Then, when there is a...
